TIPS and TICKS

Numeracy
Numeracy development influences student success in many areas of learning at school. It involves students recognising and understanding the role of mathematics in the world and having the tendencies and abilities to use mathematical knowledge and skills purposefully. In essence, numeracy is not just about numbers; it's about developing the ability to think critically, solve problems, and make informed decisions in all aspects of life.
The application of numeracy across the curriculum enriches the study of other learning areas and helps to develop a broader and deeper understanding. To assist our students in responding to worded questions involving numeracy, in class and at home, we can use the following prompts:
Read it – read the question.
What – what is the question asking you to find out?
How – how can you answer it?
Have a go – try doing it.
Answer it – write down your answer.
