Grades 1 & 2

Grade 1

This term, our Grade 1 students have been learning all about adjectives and how they help make our writing more interesting and descriptive. We’ve explored how adjectives can create a picture in the reader’s mind by adding detail to the nouns in our sentences.

Students have enjoyed experimenting with different describing words to make their writing come alive - turning a “dog” into a “furry, playful dog” or a “tree” into a “tall, twisty tree.” Through shared texts, class discussions, and creative writing tasks, the children have become adjective experts!

Keep an eye out for some of our descriptive writing pieces on display—we’re proud of how hard our young authors are working to become more expressive and imaginative writers.

Grade 2

Although it has been very chilly lately, a daily highlight at school is always getting outside to play with our friends. Some Grade 2s love using their imagination to create their own fun games, while others are enjoying playing basketball or soccer games. It is lovely to see the older students in these organised sports games leading the way, supporting our Grade 2s.

The Grade 2 students have also been working really hard on the key maths concept of making groups. They have been exploring multiplication facts and the various strategies that they can use to solve multiplication problems. They have learnt multiple strategies such as; making arrays, making groups, drawing pictures, using number lines and using repeated addition to solve multiplication problems. They enjoy using hands on materials such as counters, unifix blocks, bean bags, and playdough to model their thinking.

Grades 3 & 4

Maths Comes to Life on the Footpath!

This week in Maths, our Year 3/4 students explored fractions by counting in halves, thirds, and quarters using number lines. To bring the learning to life, we took our lesson outside and used chalk to draw number lines all over the school footpath! Students worked together to label mixed numerals and practise skip-counting in fractions. Hands-on learning like this helps students build a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts by making abstract ideas more concrete and visual. It also encourages collaboration, problem-solving, and makes learning fun! The students were highly engaged and absolutely loved the experience.

Grades 5 & 6

That’s a wrap on Market Day! Last week, the Grade 5/6 students brought the school to life with their vibrant and energetic Market Day event. Students proudly ran their own stall, offering an impressive array of handmade products, inventive games and popular services, including face painting and even the chance to soak a teacher with a wet sponge! The day was filled with fun, laughter and excitement as students from across the school eagerly explored and supported their peers' mini businesses.

Market Day gave students a valuable, hands-on opportunity to build their creativity, business management and numeracy skills, while experiencing what it takes to plan and run a successful venture. Congratulations to our 5/6 students who truly showcased their entrepreneurial flair and will now have the exciting opportunity to decide how their well-earned profits will be used.

In Literacy, students have been diving into the world of poetry, exploring a wide variety of poetic forms and techniques. From free verse and haikus to cinquains, limericks and blackout poetry, they’ve been experimenting with language to craft some truly impressive pieces of their own. To celebrate their learning and creativity, students are publishing their very own poetry books to showcase their hard work and poetic expression.
