Wellbeing in the School of Leadership

St Luke's College warmly invites the parent/community to this Parent Hub event for 2023.

How can we help our children resist harmful messages from media and pop culture and aspire to respectful relationships?

Parents and care-givers are noticing children seem to be growing up too fast, worried about their appearance and more aware of sexual issues at earlier ages. Children and young people are bombarded with hypersexualised messages from the media and popular culture.

The lives of young people are increasingly socialised, conditioned and informed by exposure to online porn before their first kiss. Drawing from current global literature and the experiences of young people, Melinda and Daniel will explore how the proliferation of sexualised images and messages contributes to a distorted view of bodies, relationships and sexuality, hampering their healthy physical, emotional and social development. They help parents to address this toxic culture and provide practice tips on raising happy, healthy and resilient young people who value their dignity and self-worth and aspire to relationships based on respect and authentic connection.

Date: Tuesday 29th August 2023

Light refreshments will be served from 5:45pm followed by the Seminar at 6:00pm in The HUB, St Luke's Catholic College. Marsden Park

RSVPs are essential to: cbettiol2@parra.catholic.edu.au

Wellbeing Wednesday: Overcoming Adversity - Building Resilience in Year 7 and 8

We are excited to share with you the incredible journey that our Year 7 and 8 students have embarked upon this term during our Wellbeing Wednesday sessions. These weekly sessions are a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering the holistic development of our students. This term, we have been focusing on the theme of "Overcoming Challenges," with a special emphasis on overcoming adversity.

In today's fast-paced world, it's crucial to equip our students with the skills and mindset to navigate life's challenges with resilience and determination. That's why our Wellbeing Wednesday sessions have delved into the importance of building inner strength and bouncing forward when faced with adversity. Our young learners have not only embraced this theme but have also astounded us with their insights and creativity.

Throughout the term, our Year 7 and 8 students have actively participated in various discussions, activities, and reflections centred around overcoming challenges. From personal anecdotes to shared stories of triumph, they've been unreserved in their engagement. We are incredibly proud of their willingness to open up and learn from each other's experiences.

As part of this term's project, our students were tasked with summarising their key takeaways from the lessons and creating collages that encapsulate the strategies they can use to bounce forward when faced with adversity. These collages are a visual representation of their newfound understanding of resilience, and they're truly inspiring.

Peer Companions

This week students explore the idea that how they view themselves and their challenges, can affect the outcomes of these situations. Students discuss helpful ways to view challenges. They consider keeping things in perspective, separating emotions and ascertaining facts to accurately identify the problem to be addressed. Your child may, at times, feel overwhelmed by the expectations of Year 6l. Encourage them to make a list or write a plan to help identify smaller tasks to make a large workload more manageable. It is important they feel supported while being encouraged to independently prioritise their responsibilities.
