Alumni visit -

Adam Saad heads home

Jack Torosidis

Teacher - Maths

We were fortunate to have Adam Saad (BSC Graduate and current Carlton AFL player) visit his old stomping ground and speak to a group of Year 9 students on the subject of nutrition.

Adam shared details of his routine, encouraging our students to develop good habits around lifestyle and nutrition in order to maximise their health.

Don’t skip breakfast!  I eat Weet-bix for breakfast with honey, bananas and blueberries.

Hydrate regularly – 2 to 3 large bottles of water per day.

Eat a range of foods - for me lots of protein, vegetables and salads are important.

Limit yourself to 2 or 3 sweets a week, although I try to avoid sugar altogether!

Religious fasting presents a challenge. During those times, I get up at 4.30am every morning to drink 2 litres of water over a 30 minute period.

Game Day Habits - I enjoy stir-fry chicken with vegetables on game day.

Importantly, listen to your body when eating and drinking - we are all different.

Adam also chatted to students and staff and answered questions on a range of topics including life as a professional football player, fitness, strength training and work-life balance.

It was a rich experience for all in attendance - thanks Adam!

Year 9

It was very exciting to meet Adam Saad! Adam emphasised the importance of nutrition in general. We need to ensure that we keep hydrated and work on establishing healthy eating habits.

Adam strongly advocated for eating a healthy breakfast, and not to skip this meal, and he reminded us to consume lots of fruits and vegetables.

The experience was very inspirational and I think we can all learn from what Adam told us.

Year 9

It was great to meet Adam Saad and to hear him speak about nutrition. He talked about what foods we should be eating and to also keep well hydrated. With regards to hydration, he said that everyone should carry a water bottle with them. He also shared what his diet looked like, even during the times that he fasts. Adam gave some fitness tips too. I will certainly consider implementing some of these habits.

Adam Saad’s visit to BSC was really interesting. He spoke to us about the importance of nutrition and how that can benefit one’s sporting performance. As someone who plays AFL, this information was very helpful and will definitely be something I implement into my life. He told us about protein and how that helps him on training days; carbohydrates and fibre to give him energy before a game; and how staying hydrated, full of electrolytes, whilst limiting sugar intake are important in helping performance.
