Book Week and visiting illustrator - Chris Kennett
Last Friday, students enjoyed participating in the Book Week parade, followed by a number of rotations completed in house groups. They completed lots of different book related activities some included: making a bookmark, a Chinese dragon and designing a front cover for a book. It was great to see the variety of the different characters on the day and we thank our families for supporting our students to join in with this day!
In the week prior we were lucky enough to be visited by illustrator Chris Kennett. Chris shared with us how he creates his digital illustrations, we got a sneak peak at a new book he has helped to create and he also took us through a drawing session. The students really enjoyed this process and this week have worked on their own stories, including the creation of Chris Kennett inspired character.
Mathematics
Students have been busy learning about location and directions. Last week it was awesome to be able to get outside in the sunshine and use co-ordinates on a school map to find letters that had to be un-jumbled to give us the message 'Maths is Cool'. This activity involved lots of teamwork and perseverance as it was quite challenging for students to read and understand the map!
Mathematics: During Mathematics sessions students will continue learning about fractions in week 9. In week 10 we will revise the concept of money, including recognising all coins and notes, being able to count small collections and work confidently when adding and subtracting small amounts.
English: Following our visit to the Melbourne Zoo, Reading sessions we will be exploring non-fiction texts and their features. We will look at the sounds 'mb' and 'wr' and practise the heart words 'after' and 'upon'.
In Writing we will practise recounting our experience at the Zoo!
Topic: Our topic lessons are concluding in students creating a puppet show using their knowledge of sound and light. Students will be working in a small group to create a small stage, puppets and writing an accompanying story. We look forward to watching their performances!
