Auslan News

This week in Auslan:

* Grade Preps have been practising the signs for Family Members, including: Mum, Dad, parents, sister, brother, baby, grandmother, grandfather, grandparents, aunty, uncle, cousin, boy, and girl.

Students made little papercraft houses and drew their family members inside their houses to share and sign with the class.

* Grades 1-4 have continued learning new signs for clothing, including:

hat, school uniform, t-shirt, shirt, jacket/coat, raincoat, scarf, gloves, jumper, dress, skirt, shorts, jeans, pyjamas, socks, and shoes.

Students in Grade 1-2 made paper chain people and dressed them in paper clothing to suit the 4 seasons, and then signed them to the class.

Grade 3-4 students have begun presenting Weather Reports to the class, signing the season, weather and temperature, and suggesting item/s of clothing to suit the weather.

The children have also enjoyed playing a Dress-Up racing game, to help them learn the names of the items of clothing in a fun way!!

Lots of laughs!!

* Grade 5-6 have been learning new signs for Family Members.

New signs to practise at home include: family, people, Mum, Dad, parents, sister, brother, baby, grandmother, grandfather, grandparents, aunty, uncle, niece, nephew, cousin, children, boy, and girl.

Students enjoyed finishing off the topic ‘About Me’ with an Auslan Autograph BINGO game, trying to ask their classmates in Auslan if they like, have, or can do… certain things, in an attempt to fill their sheet with autographs and call BINGO!

Some students came out the front and signed sentences about their classmates who they had gathered signatures from.

They did an amazing job putting together sentences about their peers, to sign for others to translate!

** A big thank you to the school leaders for embracing our request to start including some Auslan translations at our Assemblies.

They made me very proud last week, displaying such confidence and accuracy when signing and translating!!

This week, we look forward to our leaders including a little more Auslan for the school community.

A GIANT thanks to Parents Club!

I would like to thank Parents Club for their generous donation to provide the Art Room with a new set of smocks. The smocks we have been using are approx. 15 years old and were in desperate need of replacing. We have available 3 sizes in 3 different blue’s -  and we think they will not only save parents a lot of washing…but they also look pretty great too!

Thanks again,

Ms Leed
