Father's Day/Special Person Breakfast Day
It was a great start to Spring this morning with our traditional Father's Day/Special Person Breakfast. We had a huge turn-out, serving approximately 500 people! Thanks to everyone who was able to come along and enjoy a cooked breakfast and a hot drink or cold juice. We love celebrating these events and bringing our community together.
Special thanks as always to our amazing SGPS staff for volunteering to set up, cook, serve, clean and pack up. These events are not possible without their support. Mind you, we don't need to twist anyone's arm to help out, as they love supporting special events like this.
Koorie Curriculum Clusters Project Gathering
The Department of Education is piloting a program which supports partnerships between Koorie communities and clusters of local schools to strengthen whole school approaches to enacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across the curriculum.
We were fortunate to be asked to participate in Phase 1 of this program, which commenced yesterday and will run for the next two years. There are four Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAP) and twelve rural and regional schools who will be engaged in this important project.
The program will specifically focus on building partnerships between the RAPs and clusters of local schools to strengthen teacher capability and confidence to teach the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cross-curricular priority over a two-year period. The program also seeks to strengthen self-determination in education by amplifying the voices of Koorie communities to share and showcase local cultural knowledge, history and practices within school curriculum.
We look forward to sharing more information over the next two years.
Unattended Crossing
Below is a photo of the unattended crossing on Retreat Road (near Kristy Drive). The Supervisor from our school crossing will install/remove the flags at the crossing each morning and afternoon.
The crossing has the potential to cause some confusion. If your child will be using this crossing, please let them know that there won't be a supervision there to help them cross Retreat Road. Having a practice with them, before having them cross alone, might be a good way to become familiar with how to use this crossing safely.
Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey
On Monday 7 August approximately 100 randomly selected families received an invitation to participate in a Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey. We’d really appreciate you spending the time to complete the survey if you were selected.
The survey will close on Friday 8 September.
Book Week
Our students (and staff) looked fantastic during our Book Week Parade last Friday morning. Students creatively dressed up as their favourite book character, some favourites being Where’s Wally, Harry Potter, the Cat in the Hat, Star Wars and lots of princesses! Our school community enjoyed watching our students show off their costumes during our parade, with some younger siblings even joining the fun in costume too! Our students then travelled to various classrooms for Book Week activities.
Thanks to all of our staff, students and families for making this such a fun event.
Prep Ballarat Wildlife Park Excursion
Our Prep children attended their major excursion on Wednesday. They all seemed to have had a great day, although I am sure there were some tired children (and adults) that evening!
Thanks to our staff and parent helpers for supporting this excursion.
Early School Finish End of Term
Term 3 concludes on Friday 15th September. Students will be dismissed at 2.15pm. An assembly is scheduled for 2.00pm and students will be dismissed from there. Term 4 commences on Monday, 2nd October.
