School Council Report

School Council met last Wednesday night for their first meeting of the term. Our student leaders were unable to attend, but they did provide a leadership report and produced a video presentation. Unfortunately, technical issues meant we couldn’t play the video. Fortunately, the report they provided was full of great news about some of the wonderful things going on at the school, and some of the things NPS can do better. On the plus side, they report positive attitudes to the wellbeing initiatives being rolled out at the school. In terms of doing better, School Council was made aware that the prep/ones would like to see more opportunities to participate in the lunchtime clubs, so expect to see some changes on that front.
The input of student leaders is a valuable resource at NPS and the council extends a huge thank you for all their work.
The Education Subcommittee reported that NPS’s wellbeing processes are becoming more evident within the community while acknowledging there is still more that can be achieved. School Council would like to acknowledge all the effort that has been put into building up the wellbeing program this year and remind families that if they think the initiatives being rolled out might be helpful they should contact Sonya or visit the office.
The Education Subcommittee also presented information from last year’s Parent Opinion Survey. This survey is a useful tool to help NPS identify strengths and weaknesses. In the coming months this year’s survey will be sent out to our parents and carer community as per Department guidelines. I really encourage you to fill it out and submit to the school. It is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the ongoing growth and development of NPS.
In other news, School Council has come to an agreement with Team Kids to run a school holiday program at the end of term three. You can expect to hear more information about that in the coming weeks.
Finally, the parent members of the School Council would like to celebrate our teachers for going ‘above and beyond’ by making themselves available for parent/teacher interviews multiple times a year (they don’t have to do that) and for accommodating working families by scheduling interview timeslots outside of classroom hours. A lot of planning and timetabling goes into making the interview process work, so thank you! These interviews provide a wonderful opportunity for families to have open discussions and get detailed feedback on their children’s progress.
Thanks,
Adam Palmer, and the NPS School Council
