Leadership Update

This week's leadership report is virtually out of this world!

Hola a todos! Week 5 had it all!

It finally happened. The talk of 2/3 camp has been running hot for the last month and while the students haven’t arrived home as of yet, I guarantee there will be lots of fun stories to be shared but lots of kids ready to go home to bed. A big thank you to all the teachers that attended the camp and making sure the experience for all the grade 2/3s was excellent! Just so they can calm down from all the excitement slowly, they are off to the Immigration museum next Thursday. If you haven’t already given permission and paid, please log onto SENTRAL!

Raul gets first place in making an excellent Athletics carnival. It was such a fun event seeing all the students in their school house colours, supporting each other and having the time of their lives. We would like to congratulate all the students who will be representing our school at the upcoming district carnival. We won’t go into details about the parent v teacher race, but we would like to thank everyone for participating and joining in on the fun! The district athletics are all day next Wednesday! Participants who are representing our school will be contacted by the end of the week. Click on the Athletics Carnival for the real report!

This Sunday is the Term 3 working bee. The Buildings & Grounds Sub Committee have not only been mulching over where the focus needs to be, but have also decided that the ‘Thank you’ food will be the Newlands BBQ sausage. It is this Sunday at 9:00am! Bring the smiles, happiness, kids – we welcome you all! Tim will also be doing a Q&A session on how to run the last 20 metres of the 400 with grace.

Next Friday night is the time of the year where parents grab their babysitters and get to come out for Comedy Gala Show. The laughter metre will be at 100 as parents Declan, Josh, Alasdair and friends give up their time to spoil our community with an evening of fun. The PFA are begging the Newlands community to break the cycle and purchase their tickets before the event. All you need to do is open the camera on the QR Code below and your guaranteed Friday night fun will just be a week away!

We had 80 little new Newlands students come through our gates for the first time on Tuesday. It was such a fantastic way to start their schooling lives. A big thank you to Rob and Sophia who ensured that our 2024 foundation students had a great first experience at Newlands, we look forward to seeing everyone again on the 29th of August.

The Specialist program had lots of extra fun this week, with a dance incursion for our 4-6 students, Dream City joining Raema in the STEAM sessions this week and Margaret continuing to build the art pieces for our Term 4 Art Show. We are lucky to have such an incredible Specialist Team at Newlands this year who go over and above to provide such fantastic learning experiences and opportunities for our students. Our 2/3 students will have the same Science Week opportunity next week!

We are 2 weeks away from book week and there is one student that we all need to be celebrating. Olivia, in our Foundation year has borrowed the most amount of books this year by a mile. David can’t even make a prediction on how many books she has read over the read a thon period. There will be more information in next week’s newsletter about what is in store for book week, but we have both an English and Spanish Author in the works reading to our students during the week. If you haven’t already thought about what costume to wear for book week, now is the time to get thinking with the Book Parade taking place at Week 7’s assembly.

Jess, our magical lost property fairy, has kindly asked parents to check out the lost property boxes as there are lots of named school uniform items. Jess has gone over and above collecting and washing jumpers that she finds around the school. While we appreciate all the work that Jess does, lets remind our students to take responsibility for their uniform!

For more information on the upcoming events and details please check the SENTRAL calendar. We have lots of opportunities for our families to engage in our fantastic school!

See you on Sunday!

Luke
