This is it! We can’t believe we are at the end of term 4 already, and that will mark the end of our Preps first year of school. What a year we had, we went on so many adventures and we have had so much growth. We are so proud of all our students.
In Writing this term, we have been learning about information report. Our students wrote their own information report booklet on a chosen animal. They also created a diorama that tied up, with Science as we were learning about what living things need for survival.
We hosted breakfast for our prep students to help develop their independence.
We wish you all a happy and safe holiday. We will see you back in 2024.
The Prep Team
This term in Year 1 we have had a blast. We went to the aquarium and got to see all the amazing sea creatures. We met Pinjarra the crocodile Measuring in at just under 6 metres and weighing over 750kg, Pinjarra, is a 65-year-old male Saltwater Crocodile and was a spectacular sight to see. We got to hold a ‘Port Jackson shark egg’ which was pretty cool. It was super fun looking at the star fish and getting to touch them. We loved going on the bus and eating our lunch in the park with all our friends.
On Tuesday we got to meet our new class and our new teacher. We spent some time in our new classrooms doing activities and getting to know each other. We are all looking forward to the school holidays and spending time with our families.
The year one’s have explored many things in the last couple of weeks. Here is a snapshot of all the great learning that has been happening in year one!
In writing, we have completed our narratives and are now looking at fiction and non-fiction. Students will be learning the difference between them by looking at the features and the structure of these texts. Students will even create their own non-fiction book.
Noah in 1D has sorted the difference between fiction and non-fiction as part of our seesaw task.
In humanities, we have been looking at natural and constructed features, their location and how they change. We have explored how the Yarra was formed as well as places we visit in our community.
Honoka and Zayn from 1D used coloured paper to create their Yarra River.
In play-based learning, we have had a strong focus on teamwork and this has been done through many different activities such as dress ups, working together to build a structure and playing UNO.
In Maths, we have been learning about subtraction and 3D objects. Students have looked at different subtraction strategies and features of 3D objects.
Leyla and Noah in 1D have shown us different ways to subtract through pictures and worded problems.
Grace and Edward in 1D found 3D objects around the room. They labelled the object and some of the features that the objects have.
We had our science incursion this week! The students were really excited watching andlearning all about different chemical reactions. We extended this in class by creating our own science experiment with paper towels, water and food colouring. The students were really engaged as they watched what happened when the colourd red, blue and yellow mixed.
