From the Archives

This week Library Staff are leading the Mazenod community in the celebration of Children’s Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week.  This annual event that has been celebrated in Australian libraries and schools since 1945 to focus on children’s reading and quality Australian literature.

Recognition of the Library as a vital support to student learning at Mazenod is evident by the fact that on 20th March 1967, when students had only been on campus six weeks, the Rector wrote to parents requesting donations of books to start a College Library.  What started as a few shelves in a classroom has grown into the quality, multi-use facility we have today.

This photo, taken in 1970, features the opening of the purpose built Library when Commonwealth Government funds were provided to support the construction of school library and science facilities.
