1972 Form 6 students were the first class to graduate from Mazenod College. They had enrolled and commenced at St Joseph’s, Springvale in 1967 while the College in Kernot Ave, Mulgrave was under construction. The 1969 academic year began for students in the current location of Kernot Ave, Mulgrave on 4 February, 1969. The student body numbered 225 in Form I to Form III.
In the 1972 Mazenodian, Board President, Michael O’Rourke, reflected on the financial hardship Mazenod endured during its founding years. He expressed gratitude to the Oblate Fathers and their lay staff co-members for their role in the education of these young men, along with their families. He also stated, ‘the Parish Priests of the five contributing parishes cannot be sufficiently thanked for their willingness to increase their financial obligations so that the expansion of the College could continue as planned..’. It had been a challenging but rewarding six years.
Graduating students were:
Back Row: Oscar Moze, James Banfield, Karol Witte
Second Row: John Cottom, Edward Morel, Peter Hoare, Gerald McNamara, Paul Flahive, John Lucchesi, Paul Rodriquez.
Third Row: Joseph Gravina, Claude Lucchesi, Patrick Prusakowski, Theo Van Eyk, Anthony Stevenson, Ronald Bates, Andrew Yap.
