This week I spoke with Jessica Greer, the sister of one of our Old Boys, Julian Sillett, (Class of 2007). Julian’s wife, Evelyn, is the sister of another of our Old Boys, Michael Zacharewicz (Class of 2000).
Jessica has informed us of the following information and has established a “GoFundMe” Page.
“Julian has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The prognosis is 18 months. He is just 34 years of age and has two young sons with his wife Evelyn – Alfred and Paddy, who will turn 3 and 1 respectively in December. As Julian can only work reduced hours and Evelyn is still on Maternity leave, the financial burden is heavy. While we understand there are many people going through their own struggles and challenges, we would greatly appreciate it if you were able to share the link to our Go Fund Me page with the Mazenod Community.”

Next Sunday, 8th December, several of our Mazenod Old Boys will be accompanying our current Mazenod College students to Queensland, where they will participate in the Australian Volleyball Schools’ Cup. Amongst these Old Boys are Lachlan McDonnell, Terry Ahearn, Dylan Bingham, Nick Cincotta, Ben Collins, Patrick Corfee, Emilit Mathew, Tomas Olak, Kurt Tchia and Quinn Tennent. Our students will begin their journey to this Competition with the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist in our College Chapel. The Mass will be celebrated at 8.45am by Fr Casmir Arul OMI, our College Chaplain. We wish them a wonderful experience and all the very best. Further details regarding the competition will be shared next year.
Last week, on Sunday, 24th November, it was great to catch up with some of our Old Boys at the Eucharist celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the “Rosies” – Friends on the Street. For those of us who have been involved with “Rosies” over the years, it was great to catch up with our Old Boys and our newest graduates from last year.
The Mass was celebrated at St John Vianney’s, Springvale North, by our very own Old Boy, and Provincial of the Missionary Oblates of Mary immaculate, Fr Christian Fini OMI. Our homilist was our Mazenod College Rector, Fr Harry Dyer OMI. This Mass was followed by a light luncheon. Our photo depicts our Old Boys, Fr Christian Fini OMI and Patrick Maiden.
We encourage our Mazenod Old Collegians to sign up and join our new alumni digital platform. Please download the Alumnly app and register for a FREE account today.
