This Week At OOPS

Year 5/6 Market Day

Bunnings BBQ

Last Sunday OOPS parents Sarah Alligan and Simon Freeth coordinated and ran a Bunnings BBQ.  We extend a huge thank you to Sarah and Simon for all of their hard work, and to the following parents for helping on the day:

Sherie Bell, John Carpinteri, David Chitty, Kan Ding, Craig Gooding, Anna Hibberd, Greg Linforth, Jeremy Longley, Trish McGhie, Brooke Moyson, Nathan Phelan, Susannah Varrasso, Gen Walsh and Jordan Wise. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Solar Buddies

Last Friday morning, Lilangie Jayasuriya from Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and Derek Jayasuriya from Mondo visited Old Orchard Primary - to share about their careers in the power industry and how what they do changes the lives of the community, just like SolarBuddy changes the lives of the many children living in areas experiencing energy poverty around the world.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lilangie, Derek, and Stephanie for their time and effort in delivering the inspiring Victorian Solar Buddies program to our school. The interactive incursion sparked curiosity and empowered our students to think about renewable energy solutions and sustainability.

Through engaging activities and hands-on learning, students gained valuable insights into how solar power works and how it can make a real difference in communities with limited access to electricity. The passion and expertise shared by Lilangie, Derek, and Stephanie left a lasting impression on everyone, inspiring our young learners to become advocates for a brighter, more sustainable future.

We are delighted to know that the lights built by our Year 3 students will be shipped off to be used by people suffering from energy poverty.

Thank you for lighting the way to change!

Craig and the Year 3 team.

Lunch Time Yoga

Students were feeling very zen following their lunchtime yoga class with Enza.

Creative Music Recital

On Friday 29th of November my cheer team, the Sirens, competed at Cheercon Best of the Best Nationals Cheerleading competition. Mackenzie in Year 5 is also part of my team. The Nationals were held in Sydney and it was nerve racking for me and my team. This would be our last competition as a team this year! We competed against 7 other teams and performed our best routine of the year. And guess what!? We got 2nd place! My team and I were so happy, more then ever. We all received a 2nd place medal and stood up on the podium. We are really proud of ourselves!
