Grade 3 Community News
Dear Grade Three Community,
It has been an exciting fortnight for us in Grade Three and we are almost at the end ofTerm Four. Our students have been deeply engaged in their learning journey. The students have deserved a break over summer so let's finish strong!
Reading
Reading has been astronomical! We have been exploring space and discovering all sorts of scientific facts. Students have been looking at all sorts including satellites in space like birthstones, meteoroids and celestial bodies. Each session we go further and further away from Earth and are only just beginning to grasp how big the Universe truly is. Did you know the sun is a star?
Using the information we learn in class, we are able to present our knowledge to our peers in different and creative ways. Below is an example of how we have displayed our learning of the planets in our Solar System. You could ask your child what the acronym is and see if they can remember - Many Very Energetic Mermaids Just Swam Under Neptune.
Writing
As we get ready for next year, we have started writing letters to our Grade 4 teacher. We haven’t been told where we are next year but it’s been fun to write everything about ourselves. Things that we have talked about include how we learn, what we really enjoy doing and how excited we are to meet them.
Maths
Winding down for the year we are finishing off measurement and geometry. Students have been enjoying exploring capacity and using water to show the measurement of those containers. The students are shocked at how much water we need to drink throughout the day - 2 L is a lot!
We are also revising other units from throughout the year which has been fun looking at all the learning we have done. Our favorite so far has been revising shapes and utilising all the information we have learned and pushing ourselves with some funky looking shapes.
Vocabulary
Students have been looking through all the words we have been doing this year. They are revising words of their choice and completing various activities to support their learning.
Reminders:
- Please remember to send your child to school with a charged iPad
- Ask your child if they need any new stationery - now is a good time to do an audit on what they have and check what they need for next year!
- Remember to keep up the nightly reading at home, and bring the student journal to school on their designated day
- Please ensure that your child is bringing a hat
- Please ensure that your child is only bringing water in their drink bottle.
Attendance:
It is crucial that all students are attending school every day so they can work on their learning goals and don’t miss important lessons. Please book holidays during school holiday periods rather than during the school term to make sure valuable learning time is not missed.
