Student Excellence Program
First Nations Excursion (grade P-6 students):
On Wednesday 4th December, our First Nations students participated in a unique cultural excursion at the Bendigo Art Gallery, featuring a special didgeridoo performance by Troy Firebrace, a talented local First Nations artist.
This was the first time the gallery hosted a live didgeridoo performance within its exhibition space, creating an unforgettable experience. The powerful sound of the didge resonated through the gallery, offering students a deep cultural connection and an opportunity to experience Indigenous storytelling through music.
Students also explored the gallery with guidance from Annie Brigdale (First Nations Learning Officer) and Libby Noblet (Learning Officer), learning about First Nations art, culture, and history. They were taught about a wide range of different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pieces, one was even painted with Kangaroo blood!
The excursion celebrated cultural heritage while fostering creativity and curiosity, leaving students inspired by the richness of Australia’s Indigenous traditions.
Thank you to Georgie and Miss Smillie for taking our students to Bendigo so they could have this amazing experience! Our students had the best day and it was great that they were able to learn more about who they are and where they came from!
Maths Games Day: In our issue 16 newsletter we had an article on the Maths Games Day which our grade 5/6 students took part in. We had one of our groups come third out of all the teams and their prize arrived last week! Congratulations again girls on taking out third place!
Their prize was a ‘Food Fight’ maths game which was only released in October. TRPS hopes you have fun challenging your family and friends. We also got a surprise gift in the mail, with another one of our teams winning the prize for providing feedback on the day. Congratulations boys. We hope you enjoy your COOL DORK hats!
