Year 8 Tennis - State Finals
On Thursday, November 21st, our Year 8 Tennis Team competed in the State Finals under challenging conditions due to the warm weather. Despite the heat, our Year 8s played exceptionally well throughout the day.
The team faced a tough first round against Emmanuel College, who were very strong opponents. However, our players found their rhythm in the next match against Rochester SC, winning the round 5 games to 1. The final round was extremely competitive, and our students showcased smart, skilful tennis. Unfortunately, we narrowly lost to McKinnon SC, with a final score of 4 games to 2.
A huge congratulations to Laylah Ross, Ana Phan, Ava Karamitros, and Crissy Patroungas for their outstanding performance and teamwork. Reaching the State Finals is an outstanding achievement, and you should all be proud of the effort and the dedication you put in. Congratulations!

Annual Dodgeball Competition
On Tuesday, December 3rd, MGC hosted our Annual Year 7 Dodgeball Competition. It was fantastic to see our Year 7s fully embracing the House spirit, wearing their house colours and showcasing great enthusiasm throughout the day.
Each Year 7 class participated in a thrilling round robin event, where two teams from each pool advanced to the finals. The energy in the gym was electric, with amazing sportsmanship shown on and off the court. Pool A was competitive, with three classes, including 7J, 7I, and 7A each winning three matches. The final standings in Pool A were decided by the number of cones accumulated, placing 7J in third, 7A in second, and 7I as the winners. Pool B was equally exciting, with a nail-biting match determining the top two. 7B emerged as the winner of Pool B, with 7F securing second place.
The Semi-finals featured intense matchups, 7B faced 7A, while 7I went up against 7F. 7I impressed with their strategic gameplay, overcoming 7F with decisive cone knockdowns. In the match between 7B and 7A, the game was neck-and-neck until the final two minutes, where 7A emerged victorious after knocking over the last cone.
Before the Grand final, our Middle School Sport and House Captains played an exciting, friendly match against the staff. The match was competitive and entertaining, with the staff claiming victory by knocking over the final cone in the last moments of the game.
The atmosphere in the gym was energetic as the finalists entered with determination and energy. 7I came out strong, knocking down the first cone, but 7A quickly responded. With fewer players on their side, 7A's Bella McGinnes scored a winning goal that brought her teammates back into the game. Despite 7A's efforts, 7I continued to work together, knocking down another cone and sealing their victory as the final buzzer rang. The final score was 2–1, determining 7I (7M3) from Melba House as the 2024 Dodgeball Champions.
A huge thank you to our Year 7s for bringing energy, sportsmanship, and support throughout the competition. Your enthusiasm made the day memorable for all involved. We extend a special thank you to our Middle School Sport and House Captains for their outstanding leadership in running the event. Additionally, we are grateful to our staff, especially Mr. De Gois, for supporting our Year 7s and ensuring the event's success.
Congratulations to all our students for their remarkable achievements and contributions to the 2024 Sport Program. We look forward to seeing what 2025 has in store for MGC sports. Have a wonderful and safe break!
Thank you,
Ms Exner
