Year 7 Performance – Semester Two

Well done to our sensational semester two Year 7 Performance Classes.  From the provided theme of ‘Significant Woman’ each class was allocated a topic from Women in the fields of Maths and Science, to Sports, Arts and Literature to Politics. 7C explored the significant role of women in the Environment. The narrative centred around a group of girls valuing the arrival of new fashion purchased online from online stores like ‘Shein’. When orders don’t arrive, the girls become angry and consider their avenues of complaint. It is at this point that a group of women significant in the environmental movement enter and magically the girls are whisked to the Shein factory where the facts of fast fashion are revealed to them. The girls take action and decide to shut the factory down – but discover they have no power to do this. SHEIN is just too strong. However, they learn the lesson that by buying from companies like SHEIN they are supporting the industry and what they DO have is the power to make other choices.

7A researched Women in Sport to create a performance about Simone Biles. Their podcast-style performance delved into Simone Biles' upbringing, challenges and successes with live singing and dance. The students created a polished presentation as the design areas of lighting, costuming, set and sound worked seamlessly to communicate the narrative. 7A really enjoyed having specialist areas of responsibility and working collaboratively as they explored the inspirational Simone Biles!

Please enjoy some of the photos from 7C's live lunchtime performance of “Behind Closed Doors”.

Dance Program 2025

At Melbourne Girls’ College, we offer a popular dance program. These classes aim to provide a fun way to develop dance technique and performance skills. Classes are taught by professional dancers and choreographers who are currently working in the industry. We are thrilled to be running contemporary, commercial jazz, acrobatics and jazz again in 2025. Commencing in Week 4 of Term 1, a range of classes run before and after school to suit your schedule. Students will then be invited to perform at our exciting Dance Night on May 16th.

If you would like to sign up, please submit the following enrolment form: https://forms.office.com/r/9hudEMrZiy

Please tick as many mornings/afternoons as possible so I can allocate your dancer to the class that is most suitable for them. Later in the term, I will send out payment forms to be returned in the first week of school in 2025.

The approximate costs for a 10-week block of classes are as follows:

$160 for 1 class per week

$320 for 2 classes per week

$480 for 3 classes per week

Looking forward to another amazing year of dance at MGC in 2025!
