Tertiary institution Change of Preference events and info services for Year 12s
Run by the tertiary institutions themselves, these events provide valuable information to guide Year 12s in finalising their tertiary course preferences. A list of Victorian change of preference support services is now available on the VTAC website here. This support, available both in person and online, includes tours, hotlines, expos, webinars, one-on-one consultations and live chats.
The below Change of Preference support 2024 document provides times and dates for VIC and TAS tertiary institutions, whilst the Change of Preference Guide 2024 lists support available to students applying to study at universities Australia-wide in 2025.
It is highly recommended that students seek advice directly from tertiary institutions to have their questions answered and to be fully informed on their study options before making final decisions about applying to courses and listing their course preferences

The second webinar will cover how to change course preferences, how to research suitable pathways and pathway options as well as how course offers work. The Department of Education provides the ComparED website to help students make informed choices about higher education courses. ComparED utilises data from QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) surveys to provide valuable information on student experience and employment outcomes. This data lets you explore and compare the quality of higher education institutions and study areas in terms of student experience, skills development, the teaching practices, facilities and support offered. Visit www.ComparED.edu.au to be empowered to choose what’s right for you!
REMINDER to Class of 2024 graduates applying to tertiary courses

If you don’t have a TFN, you must prioritise getting this before course offers by going to Apply for a TFN for instructions on how to apply either online or by paper (depends on your circumstances and residency status).

Exploring volunteering opportunities in the summer holidays
Volunteering is a great way to develop important work and life skills, and the summer holidays is an ideal time for students to explore such opportunities. Becoming a volunteer not only helps others but is also immensely rewarding and valuable to you. Study Work Grow lists several ways volunteering can benefit you such as learning new skills, giving your resume a boost and standing out in tertiary applications, forming connections and networking, plus increasing your personal development and having positive impacts on your health.
Visit the Youth Central – Volunteering website for information on what volunteering is, how to find volunteer work and organisations that accept volunteers. Volunteering Victoria also provides advice on the types of initiatives and organisations that younger volunteers can get involved with, along with how to be a student advocate for National Student Volunteer Week (NSVW). You can use this link to find volunteer opportunities in Melbourne including those suitable for younger volunteers aged 14 to 18.
