St Monica's Swimming Carnival

A report by Alexis:

The Swimming Carnival

On Monday the 5th of February we had the St Monica's Swimming Carnival at the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre. More than 60% of people in grade 3-6 competed in at least one event. Each house made posters for their team and we took them to the carnival. Once we all got there Mr Epps explained everything and then we went to the seats divided into our house colours.

The events kicked off with the 50-metre freestyle, commencing with the grade 6 boys and girls, followed by grade 5, and so forth, concluding with grade 3. Subsequently, participants engaged in the 25-metre freestyle, following the same order.

Next in line were the 50-metre and 25-metre backstroke events, progressing through the grades in a similar fashion. We had the breaststroke starting in the 50 metre breaststroke. Then had the 25 metre breaststroke.

Finally we had the butterfly event which was only offered in the 50 metres because it was the hardest stroke. Grade 3’s could not compete in this event but other grades could.

After the competitions concluded, we returned to school, where the day continued.

The final tally revealed:

Backhaus with 94 points

McAuley with 150

Augustine with 168

and Mercy emerging victorious with 178 points.

North Melbourne Football Club Visit

As part of the AFL Community Camp Program, 4 players from the North Melbourne Football Club came to visit St Monica's

Players; Cameron Zurhaar #44, Cooper Harvey #37, Jaidyn Stephenson #02 and Riley Hardeman #17 spoke with students about their journey to the AFL and what life is like as a professional athlete and students had the opportunity to ask questions.

In 2023 we participated in the 'Wonder Rewards Recycling Program'.

This recycling program has Aussies schools collecting bread bags that would otherwise go to landfill, and in turn we earn reward points.

At the end of last year St Monica's received some great new sports equipment thanks our families efforts collecting thier bread bags and bringing them into school.

What a great initiative to be a part of, a real win win!

Check out the great new gear we scored!

Run Club

Run Club is back!

Students and parents are invited to take part in out weekly run club.

Walk/run as many laps of the school oval as you can from 8.10 - 8.30am every Friday morning. It's not a race, you set your own pace. Challenge yourself to better your lap count each week. Proudly wear your run club achievement badge for the day and encourage your friends to come along.

Just sign in at the gate on arrival and participate to the best of your ability.

New runners welcome. See Mr Epps if you have any questions.

Golden City Football Club is looking for new players.

We’re an inclusive, family friendly club and we are looking for players from all age levels and experience to play in our 2024 season starting in April. All are welcome!

We have all-girl teams at all age levels and around half of our juniors are female. We are looking for any junior players who would like to experience the World Game. Soccer is a great sport for boys and girls and the FIFA Women’s World Cup held recently in Australia and New Zealand has seen a wave of new participation in junior soccer across the Bendigo region. We support and encourage both men and women to be coaches and managers.

Our junior season starts after the Easter school break and runs for 16 weeks. Junior games are played on Saturday mornings on small-sided pitches with modified rules to make the games inclusive, engaging and fun. Training takes place once a week at our home ground, Shadforth Park, Fenton Street, North Bendigo.

You can register at https://registration.playfootball.com.au/common/pages/reg/WelcomeRegPlus.aspx?entityid=7336 .
