How to help your child succeed at school

What are your children getting for Christmas this yea

It's a common perception that certain toys are marketed or stereotypically associated with either girls or boys. In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the need to challenge these stereotypes and provide children with a more diverse and inclusive range of toys. Many advocates argue for the importance of offering children a wide variety of toys that cater to various interests, regardless of gender. Encouraging children to explore different types of toys can foster creativity, curiosity, and a broader range of skills.

Research shows that the value of playing with dolls is equally beneficial for boys and girls. Playing with dolls from around the age of one is really beneficial for children as it supports them in developing their language and thinking skills. Children also learn empathy and to understand the emotions and perspectives of others - a skill called theory of mind. Research also shows that toys without a strong gender association are often more suitable in developing important skills - toys like bikes, puzzles, books, blocks, musical instruments and trampolines.

Parents, educators, and toy manufacturers play a crucial role in promoting gender-neutral and inclusive toy options. By doing so, we can help break down rigid gender norms and support children in developing their interests and skills without unnecessary limitations.
