Eastern Suburbs Touch Grand Finals

Congratulations to Elke Klinger, Maia Gupta, Sophie Sartena and Holly Hughes who were voted by the referees as the best players for their divisions. They received their trophies at the presentation ceremony at the Grand Finals.

Our predominantly Year 12 Kambala 5 Touch team playing in their last season hung on for a 3-2 win over Kincoppal. It was great to see the excitement on the faces of the Year 10 and 12 players when the final hooter sounded. The Junior B team were extremely unlucky as Chloe Potts scored a try diving below the feet of the opposition, only to have the ball brought back for a penalty rather than the referees awarding the try. It was then a draw at full time with the opposition scoring to win the game. It was a really great effort by the team and their coach Mr Sollner.

Premier League player Bianca Sachr’s Kambala 3 team also had a number of Year 12’s hoping to finish their schoolgirl Touch with a win. They had been undefeated during the rounds but couldn’t quite finish it in the Grand Final despite every girl giving it their all and were runners up 4-2.

The Kambala 4 team coached by Lara Clemson also had a heart-breaking loss 3-2. Lara is to be congratulated on being selected to coach at representative level at Eastern Suburbs. It is great to see our former Senior A players return to coach at Kambala.

Year 7 finished the season with a round robin gala afternoon. The first prize was a voucher at Speedo’s Cafe and easter eggs and the teams were very determined to win. Each team was led by a Senior A player who could play on the field with the Year 7’s but not score a try. Each Senior A player wanted their team to be victorious and we thank Touch Captain Polly Roche and Senior A players Margot Hindmarsh, Poppy Nuthall, Jasmine Ooi and Morrison Elliot for being such great role models for the girls. The girls were interested to see the Senior A team get a special uniform to wear. The competition itself was so close that each team ended up on the same points with the winner being decided by the greatest number of tries scored. This went to the red team led by Poppy Nuthall by one try!

Badminton

The Kambala Badminton program continues to flourish, and the Senior teams have enjoyed training at Badminton Worx. There has been a marked improvement in the girls skills and agility on the court and it is exciting to see Kambala 1, 2 and our Year 7 team have progressed to the finals. The inaugural Kambala Badminton Academy will be conducted on a Friday afternoon in Term 2. All Senior School girls are welcome to join and further information is available on the senior Sport or Badminton pages on Sundial.

Our Junior School girls will be pleased to know Kambala will introduce a Badminton Clinic  in Term 3 on a Saturday morning.

Year 4 Round Robin final Soccer Challenge

Under clear autumnal skies the Year 4 soccer players lined up for their final training session of the season. Coaches Jacqueline, Luiz and Sophie held a round robin challenge made up of a mixed group of players from their regular squads.

The games were hotly contested and after some close results between the Blue, Red Yellow and Green teams, the Green pipped the other to take out the challenge.

It has been a great Soccer season for Year 4.
