From the Principal

Term 1 2024

What a busy term we have had, and it feels like only yesterday we welcomed our new families to Kambala at our Cocktail Party in early February. Since then, it has been lovely to see our parents and carers coming together and nurturing a culture of community, especially with the support of the Kambala Parents' Association.  It has also been tremendous to witness new friendships and relationships forming across all student year groups, that many of our girls will treasure well beyond their graduation in Year 12.

Term 1 is always action-packed as new routines are established and the desire for lifelong learning habits are formed. We give thanks to our teaching staff, especially those new to us, who consistently deliver best practice and inspire our girls to have a sense of self and to be good people of good character.

We have enjoyed many outstanding events across this term, including but not limited to the 2024 Festival of Music. It was a delight to see the girls from Years 5-12 perform with bounteous energy and pride on the glorious stage at the Sydney Opera House. How lucky were we to be able to witness this exceptional performance at such a globally iconic venue! Our Music faculty should be proud of the foundational learning that ensured our girls presented music of such high calibre.

We have continued to shine in many sporting endeavours, including the IGSA Tildesley Tennis Shield Tournament that saw us rank 4th in NSW, a truly outstanding result. Junior and Senior swimming carnivals have been held, and in February we saw the commissioning of the senior Prefects at St Andrew's Cathedral in the city. Leadership qualities are abundant in many of the girls at our school, and whilst some are selected for official leadership roles, I continue to be amazed at the talent and leadership disposition of many of the girls in our care, they all are truly "remarkable in the making."

Our plans to transition boarding to Fernbank in 2025 progresses. Recently we conducted our first boarding student "Fernbank focus group" with all our boarding girls from Years 7-12 taking part. In addition, we have been working with Mrs Addy Nuthall (current boarding parent) of Pink Jam Trading to develop ideas to refresh the interiors of Fernbank.  We look forward to keeping you up to date with details over the year.

I do hope you are all looking forward to some relaxing time with friends and family over the forthcoming school holiday break. This is also an opportunity for reflection and rejuvenation, so that when we commence in Term 2, we do so with energy, focus and enthusiasm. We have much to be proud of at Kambala and thank you to you all for making the start of 2024 such a rewarding one.
