A warm welcome back to all at Trinity. It was so lovely to see our children and families on Tuesday morning, happy to be back at school after our break. We also welcome new students, families and staff who have joined our Trinity community this term. We look forward to another exciting term of learning and working together.
The Learning Overviews for Term 2 are attached below and to our Principal's News page. We encourage you to read these, as the overviews will outline the learning that will be undertaken at each year level for this term.
The Maths Talent Quest is an opportunity to provide extension and enrichment to students in Year 5 and 6 who enjoy a mathematical challenge. The Maths Talent Quest is organised through the Mathematical Association of Victoria. The students are encouraged to choose a topic that is of interest to them and investigate mathematical concepts related to that topic. They will continue to work on these investigations across the term as an extra enrichment activity during Maths time.
At the beginning of each term, and in an ongoing way throughout the term, teachers assess the growth and progress of students' learning. One of the ways that we do this is to complete a 'reading running record' to determine a child's reading level. We listen to a student read and assess their decoding and comprehension skills. This helps us plan for their individual learning and to target their learning needs in guided reading and ensure they take home books appropriate to their instructional reading level.
Explicit teaching of reading happens every day in the classrooms at Trinity. Students participate in Guided Reading with their class teacher to learn and practise new reading skills at their reading level. Here you can see Ms Annie working with some students in 1/2AS during a Guided Reading session. Ms Annie is explicitly teaching a reading skill and the students have an opportunity to learn and practise this together.
Our Prep students have settled back into school life after the holidays. They have begun the term engaging in their Discovery Learning during Literacy time. They have new Discovery Stations where they are learning to develop their oral language, reading and writing skills.
If at any time you would like to chat about the learning at Trinity, or you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to see your child's teacher, or myself.
