This week in Reading, we are learning to identify the initial sound in words. 

VOCABULARY

Initial sound: The beginning sound in the word. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Point to things around your home, or at the shops, and ask your child to say what it is.  Then ask them, ‘what sound does the thing start with?’.  For example, a spoon starts with an “s” sound.  Then see if there are any other items that start with the same sound.
