Contributions to celebrate Japanese Day
Our goals for Japanese Day is to provide the students with engaging and authentic cultural experiences that complement and celebrate the learning they are doing in Japanese classes. Japanese Day is celebrated as a whole school event.
There are many opportunities available to us, limited only by our imaginations and budget!
In 2024 we are seeking contributions from families to assist in the celebration of Japanese Day. All finances raised go towards cultural incursions, such as musical performances with traditional instruments, Martial Arts displays, Manga artist workshops, or traditional storytelling shows. They could also help to purchase kitchen equipment for creating Japanese festival food to sample, traditional clothing the students can try on, or materials for use during workshops.
Items such as these can be carried through to future Japanese Days, allowing us to improve the experience each year. We hope these experiences encourage future learning, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the Japanese culture and broaden the horizons of our students at Dana Street.
We are seeking $15 per student, totaling a maximum amount of $3,750
If we collect:
$500 | A Japanese snack to try | Origami paper square (1 each) for an origami activity
$1000 | Materials for a Japanese related craft activity (eg, clay/paint/cardboard/calligraphy paper) A few Japanese snacks or a food item to try.
$2000 | Cultural incursion or workshop and related materials.
A piece of kitchen equipment to create Japanese food to sample (for example taiyaki pan OR ice shaver OR takoyaki grill which can be used in following years too).
$3000 | A workshop/incursion with related materials, Cultural performance
Japanese food or festival game products (which can be used for following years too)
There are many opportunities available to us, limited only by our imaginations and budget
