Italian

Ciao a tutti,

What have we been learning in Italian?

During the month of February students in year 7 and 8 learnt about ‘Carnevale’ and we made masks to celebrate the beginning of Lent for 2024.

Carnevale is a festival that happens in February or March each year to celebrate the beginning of fasting which occurs 40 days before Easter in the Christian Calendar.

Italians give up meat sugar or other foods during this time and Carnevale celebrations gives them an opportunity to enjoy these treats for the last time.

In Venice the celebrations are taken over by the elaborate masks that people wear. Traditionally the masks are made and decorated by hand with gold, jewels, and feathers.

Check out some of the wonderful masks our students created!

Did you know???...... The term ‘Carne vale’ means ‘farewell to meat’.

Ben fatto ragazzi!!
