Have Sum Fun Competition and Mathematics Workshops for Term 2

Have Sum Fun Competition

This month, students from various year levels had the incredible opportunity to participate in the exciting Have Sum Fun Face-to-Face Competition, showcasing their mathematical skills and team spirit. The competition, held across different venues, brought together students for a series of engaging and challenging math problems.

On Friday, 15 March, our Year 7/8 team embarked on their mathematical journey at Bob Hawke College. Not only was it a testament to their mathematical skills but it was also an avenue to make new connections. According to Alexander Buerano (Year 7), one the of participants, 'we learnt new things and made new friends'. Also reflecting on their experience, Pratyaksh Sangwan (Year 7) said 'we had a fun time and it was competitive' and Luke Swan (Year 7)said 'we got more experience while having fun and learning'. These sentiments really capture the essence of the night, blending learning with social interaction.

Both our Year 9/10 and Year 11/12 teams headed to Trinity College, with the latter competing a week earlier on Friday, 8 March. The atmosphere was electric, the room was filled with anticipation and competitive spirit. Reflecting on her experience, Sarah Abood (Year 12) said 'participating in the Have Sum Fun Competition for the past six years has been an incredible experience, providing me with a fantastic opportunity to challenge myself and create unforgettable memories along the way'. Jia Ying Chen (Year 12) shared similar sentiments saying 'the Have Sum Fun Competition is an event I look forward to every year'. Their experiences were a mix of both excitement and challenge, illustrating the competition's ability to foster a love for mathematics.

Mathematics Workshops for Term 2

Mathematics workshops outside of regular school hours create an engaging and supportive environment, where students can explore the subject beyond the constraints of a traditional classroom setting. After-school mathematics workshops are like a boost for doing well in school and beyond. They make learning mathematics enjoyable and can lead to increased confidence in tackling mathematical challenges.
