Welcome back to BPS for term 2! I hope everyone was able to catch up on some quality family time over the holidays and hopefully some rest. I imagine for some of you the holidays are a massive juggle with work, kids home and all the other commitments that you have. Our family travelled over to Adelaide for a basketball tournament for Easter and I believe a number of other BPS families made the trek as well. Ten games of basketball and a lot of driving around Adelaide made for a fun break.
The first week back was pretty busy here at BPS with a lot going on, staff away, and the building works! What struck me as I observed all of the hustle and bustle was the strength that comes from pulling together. The students have had to work together and be patient with each other at recess and lunch as they navigate not having the oval etc. Despite some of the kids finding the change difficult and annoying, one child who has been experiencing some friendship issues and feeling "left out" by other children, has actually seen those relationships improve last week. The smaller play space has created opportunities for connection which was really positive.
Whether you are new to the BPS community or been here for a long time, I hope that you are experiencing some of that support and strength. It can sometimes feel quite lonely doing this parenting job. You may feel that you are the only one going through a particular issue or that you're not being the parent that you think you should be. Can I encourage you that there are others probably going through similar issues, none of us are perfect a parenting in isolation is so difficult . We all need connection, your kids do and as adults we do as well. If you need to chat sometime and connect with the community, please reach out to me, I am very happy just to listen, you're not alone. My email is lisa.osborne@education.vic.gov.au
