Grade 3 & 4

Term 2, Week 2

Our students have had a great start to Term Two. Year 3 & 4 students continue to shine every day and have come back in full swing after the holidays, ready for an exciting term ahead.

English

Reader’s Workshop routines continue and some strategies have been explored and investigated.

Over the next few weeks we have a focus on non-fiction texts that relate to our integrated studies topic of ‘Celebrations’.

Students are continuing to plan and begin writing their narrative, persuasive and informations report piece using a graphic organiser to expand a ‘seed’ idea using the Writer’s Workshop format.

Maths

Our current focus in maths is fractions. Students will be investigating how to:

Describe what the numerator and denominator are and represent

  • How to read and write fractions in numbers and words
  • How to represent fractions of a whole (eg, 3/8 of a pizza) and of a group (eg, 1/3 of the grade)
  • Find equivalent fractions using a model (eg, that ½ a cake is the same as 2/4)
  • Placing fractions on a number line, for example placing ¾ on a number line between 0 and 2

Later in the term, we will be looking at Addition, and Subtraction. We are going to have a fantastic and informative Term 2!

Inquiry

In our Inquiry sessions we are investigating ‘Celebrations’ throughout the term and recording all our findings about different cultures, traditions, celebrations and commemorations around the world.

There have been some changes to our timetable, so please check in with your child to check when specialist lessons and library times are.

We are looking forward to a really exciting term! Wishing our students and families the best for the term. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Year 3 & 4 Team.
