Grade 1 & 2
Term 2, Week 2
Welcome back to Term 2! We have a busy and fun filled term ahead including all of these learnings:
Literacy
There is a focus on narrative (story) writing this term where students will continue to develop structure and detail. We encourage students to bring their own “writing seeds” inspiration so that it gives them inspiration to write about what they are interested in.
Students will continue with Reader’s Workshop and develop deeper understandings of texts that they read. Focus class texts will be related to our inquiry unit “How Do I Best Look After Myself?” on keeping healthy and safe.
Keep consistent reading habits at home. Even parents or other family members reading out loud teaches children how to read.
Spelling and handwriting are an important focus in Level 2 and will be continued so that Literacy skills can be built upon.
Maths
In Maths students will be learning about:
- data and graphs
- time
- addition and subtraction
- 2D and 3D shapes
- length, weight and capacity
Inquiry
Students will be learning about how to keep themselves safe and healthy. We are planning an incursion by St John’s Ambulance explaining how to get help if there is an emergency. Students will also learn about healthy eating and will be a part of a series of fun cooking lessons. Please stay tuned for further communication around this.
An important part of keeping safe and healthy is the swimming program which will be in the upcoming weeks. This will be held at Nunawading pools.
