Tessellations frequently appeared in the art of M.C. Escher and are seen throughout art history, from ancient architecture to modern art. A tessellation is a repeating pattern of shapes that fit together perfectly without any gaps or overlaps, and formed an integral feature of our Mathematics unit on location and transformation.
Students loved learning about what shapes can tessalate and applied their knowledge to create wonderful patterns in both physical and digital form.
Our Inquirly Learning investigation has taken us beyond Australias' borders tolearn about neighbouring countries. Students explored the similarities and differences between Sydney and Indonesia. They applied their learning by writing a letter to a friend or relative in Australia explaining what life was like in Indonesia, highlighting key differences.
