The Resilience Project

All About Me

At the start of Term 1, the new Year 6’s and new Year 5’s started to get to know each other - of course we loved doing so because we got to make ‘All About Me’ posters! We had to use our prickly imaginations and epic drawing skills to come up with what we wanted others to know about us. We look at these posters on our wall every day now to help us find things we have in common with our new friends!

Here is a few of our posters hanging on our classroom wall.

Emotion Posters

During our Resilience Program and Wellbeing lessons, 5/6A got in their “feels”... we explored different E-M-O-T-I-O-N-S and turned them into poems because we are very clever cacti! After picking an ‘emotion word’, we had to think about what colour it is like and what effect it would have on our five senses:

👃👀👂👅🖐

We then recorded ourselves reciting our poems and posted it on SeeSaw for all of our parents to see!

Gratitude with our Buddies

Awww! Our buddies are super cute! We have partnered up with Foundation L for our masses this year and to break the ice, we caught up with them to have some fun! We tried our best to be a good role model and help them come up with some things they are grateful for e.g. their family, friends and school; they then had to draw this on a ‘SPLAT’! We loved spending time getting to know our buddies and all of the things they are grateful for

5 / 6 Sports Gala Day

“BOING!”

That is the sound of a tennis ball hitting a racket and tennis was one of the four amazing sports we got to play at our 5/6 Gala Day in Term 1. Whilst some of our class were zooming around the tee-ball diamond to score a home run, others were “digging” their way to victory in volleyball and everyone playing cricket really wished they were wearing the all white uniform as it was a scorching hot day for all! We were all super proud of ourselves because we showed excellent sportsmanship and cheered on our friends.

Check out our game faces!! We had to pose in a position that resembles the sport we played at Gala Day.

Harmony Day at SJV

Harmony is sharing peace.

Harmony is building a community.

Harmony is about respecting each other.

Harmony is here at SJV.

Last Thursday, we celebrated Harmony Day by dressing up in either our traditional dress, the colours of our culture’s flag or in a touch of orange! We did all kinds of activities set up by our specialists that helped us to understand the importance of celebrating everyone’s different cultures. We also looked at the United Nations’ ‘Rights of A Child’ articles and made posters that we can look at every day to remind ourselves how we deserve to be treated and how we should treat others.

We will see you all in Term 2 - have a fan-cactus Easter weekend and holiday break!
