Girls Cricket

Narrandera High Open Girls Cricket team recently travelled to Leeton to compete in the Western Riverina Marie Cornish Shield Gala Day. The girls showed great spirit and resilience in 38 degree heat.

Narrandera High faced Murrumbidgee High School in the first game, winning the toss and opting to field. Narrandera bowled Murrumbidgee out for 17 in 9 overs. Our best bowlers were Millie Smith, who took 3 for 2 off 2 overs and Tess Williamson who took 3 for 6 off 2 overs. They were well supported by Talara Wolter who took 2 for 3 off 3 overs including starting the innings with a maiden. Elsie Pendergast and Zayley Brewer both took a wicket each. Hannah McDonald took two catches behind the stumps and Lilly Irons took a classic catch at cover.

Narrandera chased down the runs without losing a wicket with 16 overs to spare. Millie Smith scored 11 not out and Talara Wolter hit 5 not out. Narrandera won by 10 wickets.

In Game 2 Narrandera played against the Riverina Access Program Schools Team (RAP). Narrandera High again bowled first, bowling RAP out for 28 in 14 overs. The wickets were shared around with Talara Wolter taking 2 for 4 off 2 overs, Elsie Pendergast, 2 for 3 off 3, Julia Walsh, 2 for 5 off 2, Lilly Irons 2 for 0 off 1, Zayley Brewer and Millie Smith took a wicket each.

Narrandera made light work of the chase, scoring the runs in 9 overs. Talara Wolter hit 8 not out and was supported by Millie Smith who hit 4 not out. Narrandera High won by 8 wickets.

Narrandera High qualified for the Final against Yanco Agricultural High School. Once again Narrandera High bowled first but came up with more resistance than previous games with Yanco Ag batting their 20 overs finishing with a total of 78. Millie Smith was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 12 off her 4 overs. Lilly Irons finished the bowling innings strong with 2 for 2 off 3 overs.

Narrandera High fought hard in reply, batting their 20 overs but coming up short of the required total by 28 runs. Millie Smith batted for 15 overs holding the innings together with 19 runs.

Overall a good day for NHS, falling just short of going through to the next round. Well done to all the girls. We look forward to going one better next year. A huge thank you to Sam Williamson for umpiring and Nick Perram for scoring.
