SSV GWR Senior Girls Netball

On Tuesday 11th June the BHS Senior Girls Netball team participated in the SSV Greater Western competition at the Ballarat Netball Association. Everybody attending were extremely thankful to be playing indoors as the rain was pouring down outside! 6 teams were entered which resulted in a Pool Play format. BHS was allocated in a pool with Emmanuel College (11 - 23 goals) and Mortlake P-12 College (29 - 17 goals). One win/one loss was enough for the BHS team to qualify for the 3rd place final against Horsham College. Unfortunately, Horsham College got a late jump on our girls with the BHS team going down 21 - 23 goals. Ballarat High School officially finished in 4th place.

Students involved: Georgia Bodey, Maya Fleming, Meika Harrison, Georgia Hayne, Charli Knight, Aislinn McCarthy, Brooklyn Metcalfe, Kyra Rouhan, Ella Smith

SSV GWR Senior & Intermediate Boys Football

On Tuesday 11th June BHS took our Senior & Intermediate Boys Football teams to the SSV Greater Western Region competition at the Marty Busch Reserve, Sebastopol. In the Senior Boys competition 5 teams competed in a Round Robin competition. Mortlake P-12 College (22 -18 points), Trinity College (14 -33 points), Monivae College (6 - 37 points) and Horsham College (6 - 23 points). The team only ended with one win for the day but battled on valiantly and finished in 4th place.

In the Intermediate Boys competition 6 teams competed in Pool Play competition. BHS drew Horsham College (9 -27 points) and Mercy Regional College (1 - 55 points) in their pool, arguably the far tougher pool. Unfortunately, without a win the Intermediate Boys couldn’t progress to the finals of the competition. The team finished in 5th place

SSV GWR Senior & Intermediate Badminton

On Tuesday 11th June BHS took 6 teams (Senior Boys, 2  Senior Girls, 2  Intermediate Boys, Intermediate Girls) to the SSV Greater Western Region competition at the Ken Kay Badminton Stadium, Ballarat. In the Senior Boys competition 5 teams competed in a Round Robin format. Brauer College A Team (2 - 4 sets), Cobden Technical School (6 - 0 sets), Brauer College B Team (6 - 0 sets) and Colac Secondary College (5 - 1 sets). After the round one loss to Brauer College A, the team went on to win the remaining matches for the day. Unfortunately, it was a detrimental loss as the Brauer College A team went undefeated for the competition and declared the winner.  Ballarat High School had finished in the runners up position. In the Senior Girls competition BHS had 2 of the 3 teams with Colac Secondary College the third team. Confidence was high for a BHS win!

Ballarat High School A:

  • Ballarat High School B (6 - 0 sets)
  • Colac Secondary College (6 - 0 sets)

Ballarat High School B:

  • Ballarat High School A (0 - 6 sets)
  • Colac Secondary College (3 - 3 sets, BHS win on points)

The Ballarat High School A team had come away victorious, with the Ballarat High School B team securing the runners up position.

In the Intermediate Boys competition, the school had a team in both Pool A (BHS A) and Pool B (BHS B), the top 2 teams in each pool would progress to the finals. Ballarat High School A had matches against Cobden Technical School B (2 - 4 sets), King’s College (2 - 4 sets) and Colac Secondary College A (4 - 2 sets).

Ballarat High School B had matches against Cobden Technical School A (0 - 6 sets), Balmoral Community College (0 - 6 sets) and Colac Secondary College B (2 - 4 sets). Unfortunately, both teams were only able to secure one win which wasn’t enough to qualify for the finals series.

In the Intermediate Girls competition, the school had a team in Pool A against Colac Secondary College A (0 - 6 sets) and Balmoral Community College (4 - 2 sets). Like the Intermediate Boys, the Girls didn’t secure enough wins to make it into the finals series.

The Senior Girls A team have now qualified for the SSV Senior Girls State Badminton Championships on Thursday 15th August at the Melbourne Sports and Events Centre (MSAC).

SSV Eureka Year 7 Girls Netball

On Wednesday 13th June BHS took a team to the SSV Eureka competition at the Ballarat Netball Association. The competition was at maximum capacity with 9 teams resulting in 8 matches for the Year 7 Girls to negotiate throughout the day. The results were as follows:

  • Mount Clear College A Team (7 - 3 goals)
  • Woodmans Hill Secondary College (16 - 0 goals)
  • Phoenix Secondary College A Team (9 - 10 goals)
  • Daylesford Secondary College (7 - 5 goals)
  • Phoenix Secondary College B Team (5 - 10 goals)
  • Mount Clear College B Team [Year 8 Girls] (14 - 0 goals)
  • Beaufort Secondary College (14 - 1 goals)
  • Mount Rowan Secondary College (19 - 1 goals)

The whole competition was extremely interesting with a number of sides winning games against each other to the extent where no clear winner could be identified. For integrity of results, the B team matches were removed to determine the overall winner. Once the results had been recalculated, Ballarat High School was declared the winner by 1 point! Certainly much relief amongst our students and coaches. The Year 7 Girls will now qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region Year 7 Girls Netball competition on Wednesday 26th June at Ballarat Netball Association.

Students involved:

Ruby Cassidy, Demi Clarke, Molly Gibbs, Ruby Graco, Summer Harwood, Olivia Lawrence, Pippa Pring, Alice Smith, Charlie Smith, Sabra Wilkie

SSV Greater Western Region Junior Girls Football

On Thursday 13th June BHS took our Junior Girls Football team to the SSV Greater Western Region competition at Pedrina Park, Hamilton. It was certainly a very early start with the team heading off at 7:15am to make the 2 hour drive in time for the 10am start. The competition consisted of a 5 team round robin tournament, so the team had 4 matches to play. Trinity College (1- 14 points), Emmanuel College (0 -  26 points), Mercy Regional College (2 - 2 points), Horsham College (20 - 0 points). The team walked away with one win, one draw and two loses to secure 3rd place for the competition. Coach Rob Simmonds noted it was a fantastic effort and result from the girls, especially considering a large portion of the team had very little football experience. The excitement didn’t stop there though! When the team tried to commence the return journey back to Ballarat they were hampered by a small issue, the bus battery had gone flat! Support services were called and Rob Simmonds took on the brave task of walking 22 tired and hungry girls to the nearest McDonalds, a 20 minute walk. Once back on the road the team returned back to Ballarat High School at 6:30pm, only 2 hours after the predicted return time.

Students involved:

Marley Abbott, Ruby Cassidy, Demi Clarke, Olivia Collins, Cecilia Evans, Addison Farnsworth, Grace Geyer, Madison Gleeson, Ruby Graco, Ekam Kaur Grewal, Ava Jeffrey, Hannah Jones, Nyah Michels, Kate Minster, Dakodah Pearce, Pippa Pring, Leela Smith, Temia Smith, Eva Tallent, Lena Wiltsher
