Embracing Feedback: A Pathway to Personal and Academic Growth

In our journey towards becoming confident, capable young women, we encounter many opportunities for growth. One of the most powerful tools at our disposal is feedback. Whether it comes from teachers, peers, or our own reflections, feedback provides us with invaluable insights that shape our learning and personal development. This is a particularly prevalent message in light of the SET Planning and Mentor meetings that took place this week to assist students with pathway selection and goal setting for the upcoming Semester.

Why should I take on board the feedback?

Feedback is more than just comments on our work; it’s a pathway for improvement. It can be positive reinforcement, constructive criticism, or suggestions for enhancement. By actively seeking and listening to feedback, we open ourselves to new perspectives and possibilities.

Why Does Feedback Matter?

Feedback helps us understand our strengths and areas for improvement. It guides us in refining our skills and mastering subjects. Constructive feedback empowers us to take risks and challenge ourselves and shows that someone believes and is invested in our ability to grow. Moreover, as we focus particularly on the preparation of our students beyond the gates of Mount A this week, it is pertinent to consider how feedback is valued in the professional world and higher education. The ability to receive and act upon feedback is a lifelong skill. This skill fosters resilience and adaptability preparing our students to be audacious individuals and change makers for our society.

How to Embrace Feedback?

  1. Be Open-Minded: Approach feedback with a positive attitude. See it as an opportunity rather than criticism.
  2. Actively Seek Feedback: Don’t wait for feedback to come to you. Request it from teachers, mentors, and peers. Use it to set goals and track your progress.
  3. Reflect and Act: Take time to process feedback. What can you learn from it? How can you apply it to improve?

Students of Mount Alvernia College, are fortunate to have a supportive community that values growth. Let’s embrace feedback as a cornerstone of our learning journey.
