This week in Prep we have started our new English unit about Kings and Queens. The students have begun by learning what kings and queens are and have given themselves some very fancy royal titles. It has been wonderful to see the students so excited and engaged by their learning. In particular, the students enjoyed writing about their favourite fictional kings, queens and princesses, including Princess Peach and Queen Elsa. On Friday we made our very own crowns, teachers included, covered in jewels and gems or all sorts. Fantastic work this week little kings and queens!
Last week, all the Year 1 students attended an exciting excursion to Scienceworks! They had a wonderful time deepening their understanding of our vast solar system. At the Planetarium, students explored the night sky in an immersive experience. Excursions like this are only possible with the support of our amazing parent community. Thank you to all the parents who offered to help out and to those who were able to join us on the day.
Our Year 2 students made their way to ancient Greece to start their new topic of Greek Myths. This week, they read a myth called Arachne the Weaver. Arachne was very skilled at weaving beautiful tapestries. Our students worked in groups to create their own tapestries with each member retelling a part of the story. Have a look below to see how their tapestries turned out.
This week, the Year 3 and 4 students had an unforgettable adventure at Lady Northcote Discovery Camp. They took part in a variety of activities, including the giant swing, raft building, frisbee golf, and archery, among many others. These experiences were crafted to challenge the students and help them step outside their comfort zones, and it was fantastic to witness so many of them challenging themselves to go beyond their personal limit. We encourage you to reflect with your child this weekend on what they enjoyed most, what they are proud of, and what challenged them over the three days at camp as the memories made will be sure to last a lifetime!
Year 5 had an electrifying time in science class this week! The students built their very own windmills using recycled materials, learning how the power of the wind can be turned into electricity. Not every windmill worked perfectly on the first try, but our young scientists didn't give up—they showed real "windpower" as they helped each other and kept trying until they got it right. It was a breeze to see everyone working together and having fun while learning!
Last week, Year 6 students worked together to create a whole class display to recognise Bullying No Way Day. This year’s theme was Everyone Belongs. The students created a Belonging Mosaic and discussed what it feels like to belong in a community and how they could use this learning as they transition into high school. Look at our displays!
