NAPLAN 2024

Our 2024 results, as highlighted on PAM, were very encouraging. Even before receiving the NAPLAN results, our teachers have been diligently working on consistent curriculum delivery. Our collective goal remains focused on explicit teaching and continuous practice review. While we are pleased with the results, we aim for even greater achievements. We want to inspire the children to reach the next level by modelling quality work and demonstrating the essential skills they need.

Furphy Literacy Awards

Well done Sean Kelly on placing 3rd in this writing competition. Another great achievement from a dedicated student. Your current teacher and past teachers are very proud of you.

Year 1/2 Excursion

Nine staff members joined our Year 1/2 students and headed to Melbourne Zoo on Tuesday. After the initial fog, the weather was kind to the group. There were several other schools attending and the funny thing is some schools spent nearly as much time on the bus getting there as we did! This opportunity has many learning outcomes including:

-knowledge about  flora and fauna

-retaining this knowledge

-being independent

-listening to and following instructions in a public area

-listening to zoo keepers

-asking positive questions

-looking after their belongings

-having fun outside the school setting with their peers

-building friendships

-appreciating families for paying for the excursion via school fees

-appreciating the planning from the staff

We look forward to seeing some photos.

Smile on Your Dial Day last Term

On the final day of term our Year 6 leaders organised a themed casual clothes day.

Jeans for Genes Day

Today we supported Jeans for Genes day. We will post some photos on FB at some stage.

Bunnings BBQ

The morning weather was a little more pleasant than Saturday afternoon! I thank all who assisted and to those who visited Bunnings and bought a sausage. We raised about $1600 and sold $480 worth of Freddos.

I only have some photos from the morning shift.

Calendar and start of 2025

Please keep looking at this as we may add or edit previous dates. At times we get requests for confirmed dates for the end or start of the year. These may change from time to time depending on system requests and availability of external specialists for staff professional learning.

VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority)

We received feedback from VRQA and CESL regarding a successful VRQA process. Here is one paragraph from the cover letter.

It is with great pleasure that we inform you that you have met and exceeded all VRQA requirements. Your commitment to maintaining high standards and your unwavering dedication to the education of your students is truly commendable. We understand the significant amount of hard work, preparation, and attention to detail that goes into ensuring compliance, and we want to acknowledge your remarkable achievements. Your efforts reflect not only your professionalism but also your genuine concern for the well-being and educational growth of our students.

2025 Enrolments

At this stage we have a good number of Foundation students for 2025. We have started planning for 2025 classes. Some things we are considering:

-straight grades

-number of classes/teachers

-extra support

We cannot progress with our plans unless we know our numbers for 2025. If you have a child in Years 1-5 please let us know if you are leaving St Luke's for any reason. This could be leaving Shepparton or moving to another school.

Staff Watch

Miss Bekirofski

In Year 10, she was a Beacon Foundation student leader for NDC. The Beacon Foundation is a national-non-for-profit organisation which helps to provide positive pathways and opportunities for students in schools before they enter the workforce.

She was nominated by the school to enter and won a scholarship through the Beacon program to be part of the 2013 National Aspiring Leaders Summit, in Canberra at Outward Bound. She was one of 22 young, aspiring leaders around Australia to be selected for the eight-day summit. The summit presented her with a variety of challenges to help them expand their understanding of themselves and what they could achieve through public speaking workshops, decision making, problem solving, teamwork, leadership and wilderness expedition.

Mrs Maher

Since getting back on the court after 10 years to play C-Res at Tallygaroopna this year it seems fitting to look back at some of my favourite netball memories. Unfortunately I haven’t grown since I was 12, so netball was much easier when I was younger as I had a height advantage! My time playing rep for Shepparton in grade 5 and year 7 were definitely highlights.

I hope my best netball memory is yet to come with finals hopes alive for myself and the Tally girls as we are sitting second on the ladder with 3 games to go!

Upcoming Meetings

Community Group: Tuesday 6th August 7pm

Advisory Group: Tuesday 13th August 7pm

20 years

In 2025, it will mark 20 years for St Luke's. I will be sharing photos of our past in the remaining newsletters this year leading into 2025.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
