We have had an AWESOME two weeks of Science learning in STEM!
Here is what we did:
Henny Penny Hatching Program

This week, we began the Henny Penny Hatching Program! We started with 3x 1-day-old baby chickens and 10 eggs.
Now we have 11 Chickens!
All chickens are healthy and doing well with their brothers and sisters!
We also continued to learn about the way birds adapt to their environment to survive and their basic survival needs.

A big thank you to the parents who generously volunteered to adopt our baby chickens!
Plant Update!
This week, students in F-2 were given the option to either take home their plants or plant them in the school garden. These plants will need to be transplanted into either the ground or a bigger pot as they are too big for their current one!
Unfortunately, our Grade 3/4 Mint Project failed as the self-sustained ecosystem was compromised and the seeds never began to germinate.

This fortnight, the Prep students have been working on practicing their drawing techniques. They have been able to follow instructions and create some fantastic drawings.
In the grade 1/2 classes, students have completed some fantastic drawings also and have created a pop art drawing.
In grade 3/4, students completed their paper cutting techniques and have started to create a 3D face using the techniques they have learnt.
The 5/6 students helped to create some amazing displays around the school, including their dragon eyes and staff portraits which were a hit with staff members at our meeting on Wednesday.

This week students began to work in the Broadmeadows Community Garden!
They began planting strawberries, mint, parsley, snow peas and broad beans. Some of these plants were donated by students who grew them in their STEM lessons, so thank you to all those who helped us get our garden started with a variety of seedlings.

Students used their digging and sowing skills to plant seeds and seedlings, used their good judgment for watering the plants appropriately, and followed the garden rules in order to work safely and cooperatively within the space.

We discussed which plants were in season, and which ones we would have to wait for warmer weather in order to plant.

We hope to see more seedlings pop up over the next few weeks, and come back from the school holidays with the start of a wonderful garden growing!
