Literacy

Inferring is our focus in reading. To be able to infer successfully you need to be able to use information you have gathered to determine why or how something happened, or what might happen next. The information you gather might be something explicitly stated, but it could also be implied. We use inferring daily in our interactions with others and with the world around us.

Take a look at the sequences of pictures below and see if you can infer what has happened.

Our writing continues to focus on information reports. Students have moved through the planning, writing, editing, and publishing stages of producing a text. Our explorations for the genre have taken us away from mammals and into minibeasts, fruits, and everyday objects.

Numeracy

Building on our number fluency and skills with addition, we have now started to explore elements of subtraction. Understanding the way that addition and subtraction are linked is beneficial for students when they are engaging with problem solving tasks, or when they want to check their answers. The use of part, part, whole is especially helpful, and we have been revising this.

SEL / Inquiry

Our school values are kindness, respect, and learning together. In the 1/2 learning spaces we understand the importance of being able to work with different people, as well as being flexible in our approaches to learning and life. Each teacher in 1/2 has selected an activity that will help to meet a particular social emotional need demonstrated by the cohort, while also providing additional learning of essential skills and capacities. Each week the students move to a different teacher and learn the different activity. Students appear to be enjoying having learning interactions with the different teachers, and exploring the different learning spaces.

Mrs O’Reilly is teaching the students to play the card game ‘Go Fish!’. This encompasses turn taking, following the rules of a game, oral language development, setting up and packing up resources, and processing winning and losing in appropriate ways.

Ms King is teaching some music and body percussion. This encompasses vocabulary, instruction following, beat and rhythm, awareness of self and personal space, and creativity of creation.

Ms R is teaching guided drawing. This encompasses fine motor skills, instruction following, the behaviours of persistence and concentration, problem solving, and the development of location language.

Our school wellbeing team have been sharing resources with the teachers around best learning.

A healthy, happy child is a good learner.

One way you can support a healthy, happy child is with:

EXERCISE

Walking, running, swimming, dancing, and playing are all ways to engage your body in exercise. This helps to develop gross motor skills, as well as providing healthy outlets for energy. Exercise releases endorphins that make us feel good and help with a positive mindset.
