Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 10, Term 2

In Week 10 we are learning about...

📚 LITERACY

In Reading, we  be looking at the mentor text, 'Tree'. We will notice the vivid vocabulary and images used to connect us to this creative non - fiction text. We will also be revisiting parts of speech, as they appear in the text.

In Writing, we will continue to persuade, focussing on our word choice; using strong verbs and adjectives to help the reader connect to our ideas.

In Phonics, we will be focusing on word endings (suffixes) and understanding how adding an 'ing' or an 'ed' to a base word can change it. For example, 'have' changes to 'having' (drop the 'e') and 'stop' changes to 'stopped' (add another 'p' before the 'ed').

What you can do at home

Investigate some Dreamtime stories. These can easily be found online .

Here is a link to one to get you started. This is the story of  why the Blue Wren can't fly high.

🎲 NUMERACY

This week we will continue our focus on how addition and subtraction are connected. Finding the missing number in equations will demonstrate how these operations can help each other out. Also considering the difference between two numbers helps us think about  the connections between addition and subtraction. We will be using count on and count back strategies to demonstrate the addition and subtraction operations.

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to explore Maths Seeds (Gr 1) and Mathletics (Gr2) to help them practice simple mathematical concepts. Opportunities to practice fluency in numeracy will build skills that your child will use in the future.

You can find passwords for the above-mentioned programs inside the front cover  of your child's Reading Log.

🌄 CBL - Country

This week students will plan and prepare for our challenge, 'Share how we respect country'. We will revisit the knowledge we have developed over the term to consider the following, 'Caring for country doesn’t just have to be caring about the environment, but it includes being respectful, listening and seeking to understand.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Thank you to those parents who have offered to volunteer in our 'Parent Helpers' program. After working through a few logistics, we are now hoping to start the program in Term Three.

Please note, that if you are hoping to participate in our 'Parent Helpers' program, you are required to attend our Parent Helpers Information session and ensure that you have completed the Child Safe training. Term Three dates for Child Safe training include Thursday 1st August and Monday 2nd September. Both sessions will be held online and you will find the links for these session on the Sentral Parent calendar.

This week, students will be completing a range of activities on their iPads. It is vital that students bring a fully charged iPad to school every day, to complete many of the tasks we plan for, including assessments. Please help remind your child to pack their fully charged iPad in their school bag every day. Thank you for your assistance with this.

It is important to let your child’s classroom teacher know of any problems/concerns that your child may share with you about their time at school. Please alert the school (classroom teacher) about the problem as soon as possible, allowing school staff to work through it, rather than trying to solve it yourself or with other parents.
