CURRICULUM

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Students will read decodable  words, phrases, texts, using their knowledge of sounds to segment and blend words. We will look at some 'irregular' words, and discuss the parts of the word that need to be learnt 'by heart'.

Students will learn about the trigraph 'ing', as it is often a sound that they need in their writing. They will read and making words, extending from CVC to CVCC and CCVCC (eg. sing, wing, bring).

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to read their decodable 'take home' book each night

-Explore the Reading Eggs library and Fast Phonics to read decodable texts

-Continue to revise sounds on the sound/letter rings

-Talk about words that rhyme. Provide a word for your child to rhyme with eg. 'cat' and say / write as many rhyming words as you can

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

The mentor text this week is Koala Lou by Mem Fox. Students will use this text to form the basis of their writing experiences, like sequencing the story, writing an 'ingp (verb) poem and responding to a visual prompt from the story.

Rich vocabulary will be chosen from the story to explore in greater depth. Students will be challenged to use one of the chosen words to include in their Koala Lou writing.

Students will revise the exit and entry points for 'the boss' letter l, and the related 'cousins' - t, b, k, j, p, h, f and the 'baby cousin', i.

What can you do at home?

-Engage in fine motor tasks such as sorting, threading, writing, colouring, making, building, play dough and painting

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

-Practise lower case letter formations on the app 'red writing'

🔢  Maths

We will revisit addition to cement and extend our understanding of two number groups coming together to make a larger number. We will use the idea of 'part-part-whole' to explore this. Students will use a range of manipulatives (eg. unifix, counters, playdough, number lines, tens frames) to help with this learning, to build numbers to 10 and beyond. Students will also explore the concept of 'Friends to 10' to build number fluency

What can you do at home?

-Use Mathseeds on the iPad to explore addition concepts

-Use the app 'Friends of Ten' on the iPad to practise addition

🌏 CBL - Country

Students will visit the Imagination Garden to clean it up, in preparation for bringing Country to the garden.

👯‍♂️ Friendology

Students will learn about the Friend-o-Meter. This session helps students identify the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships, and the impact that body language has on our friendships.
