Staff Update

From Mrs Campbell

Inclusive Education

It is with mixed emotions that I write to introduce our new Head of Inclusive Education from the start of Semester Two 2024.

Mrs Deb Kerfoot has decided to move away from a full-time teaching and leadership position and will be leaving St George’s at the end of Term Two.  Mrs Kerfoot has been with us since Term Four 2021, initially as a temporary teacher within the Mathematics Department and then moving into the Head of Inclusive Education role from the start of 2022.  I am enormously grateful for all the work that Deb has undertaken in this role both as a leader within the Inclusive Education Centre and as a Mathematics Teacher in the Maths Department. She has brought much vibrancy, energy and fun to all that she has undertaken, and she will most definitely be very sorelymissed as she steps away from education for a while. We wish her all the very best as she takes a much-needed break from teaching before deciding on what her next steps educationally might be.

We have appointed Mrs Megan Lefroy, as our new Head of Inclusive Education from the beginning of Term Three 2024. Megan is currently the Head of Inclusive Education at John Wollaston Anglican Community School, a K–12 school with a strong connection to Telethon Speech and Hearing and a wide range of students needing educational support in a variety of different contexts.

Megan has held this significant leadership role since 2021 but has worked as a learning support teacher across K – 12 since 2018.

Megan comes to St George’s with exceptional knowledge and understanding of learning support and learning extension. She has developed a bespoke Year 7 learning support program in literacy and numeracy at John Wollaston and has also embedded several Gifted and Talented programs throughout the curriculum making provisions for twice exceptional students to pursue their strengths and interests. She hopes to bring both of these initiatives in time to St George’s.

Mrs Kerfoot will manage a detailed handover with Mrs Lefroy at the start of Term Three to ensure continuity of care for all students within the School.  I am thrilled to be welcoming Mrs Lefroy to St George’s and the expertise and experience that she will bring to this crucial leadership role.
