News - from Chris and Mel in the kitchen & garden
Mel and Mike came into school on Monday to cut up the giant 30kg Musquee de Provence pumpkin we grew in summer.
Grade 456s classes are making a variety of dishes from the pumpkin over the next two weeks to share next Tuesday with the whole school.
This week, Grade 456H worked well together to make Australian Pumpkin Soup to freeze and share next week, and Sri Lankan Pumpkin Curry (Wattaka Kalu Pol) and Roti.
Helen’s group skinned and cut up 4kg of pumpkin for all the dishes. Arlo weighed and recorded the pumpkin we used and is going to calculate how much of the 30kg pumpkin is useable after the seeds and skin are removed.
They prepared and cooked the ingredients for the Australian Pumpkin soup that we will freeze and share with the whole school next week.
Chris’s group made the Roti and Sri Lankan Curry. Pepper and her team made the Roti dough and cut and weighed the dough into 20 equal portions. It was great seeing them work together to solve the maths!
When the Roti dough had rested, Mina and her group did a great job, shaping and rolling the dough and cooking and keeping the Roti warm.
Lizzie and Pepper and their group prepared the spices, onions and pumpkin for the curry and worked well to cook a delicious curry.
456H showed how organised they are in the kitchen and worked well together to clean up after each task. Javi did an amazing job rinsing, putting the dishes through the dishwasher and putting the dishes away. Merry did a great job organising her group’s supplies, cleaning up, putting all the dishes away. Harlow and his team did a great serving the curry to everyone.
Everyone enjoyed the Sri Lankan Curry and Roti, the Musquee de Provence pumpkin is delicious and we’re excited to share it with everyone next week.
Arlo said, “The different flavours of the curry worked well together, especially with the extra dried chilli we grew”
