Literacy
We have continued our unit on persuasive text, and have been exploring various topics of debate. We have written texts on the topics ‘Should organised sport be mandatory on the weekend?’ and ‘Should animals be kept in the zoo?’. We have been learning the difference between fact and opinion, and recording reasons for and against arguments.. During planning, we have structured our paragraphs to be driven by a reason, and supported by evidence we have brainstormed as a class. We have also begun looking at persuasive advertisements, and throughout our class mentor text, The Lorax, we have been unpacking how we could create a persuasive advertisement for the ‘thneed’.
Mathematics
During mathematics we have been exploring our unit on Data and Statistics; collecting data and analysing graphs. It’s been wonderful to see students collaborate to effectively collect categorical and numerical data, which we then work to display in a variety of graphs including picture graphs and column graphs. Once our graphs have been collated, we then analyse these to infer meaning and answer questions to find out information on the data we have collected.
Inquiry
Last week on Friday we attended the Melbourne Zoo for our 3/4 excursion, learning all about life cycles and animals as living things. We had a wonderful education session with the Zoo Keepers, which informed us all about the enrichment that the zoo uses to assist with the animals life and wellbeing. We had a look at the sustainability and reliability of the current enrichment tools, and how they are used by animals throughout the different stages of their life. The rest of our day was spent exploring the zoo, and making connections between our life cycles and animal studies from our inquiry unit at school.
Religion
It has been a wonderful term exploring the sacrament of Eucharist. 3/4 M and 3/4 TM attended mass last Friday, which was a great experience, consolidating our new learnings. Recently we have explored the Last Supper and its significance in relation to the sacrament of Eucharist. We have learnt about the tradition of the Passover meal and the symbols which we recognise in church and how they came to be through the Last Supper. We are very much looking forward to next term and our celebrations to come!
