Performing Arts

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

As we reach the midway point to our year, I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone for your efforts and support of our Music Students.  There have been some tricky moments this term with the Instrumental timetables, some less than accurate Compass lesson times, and some inaccurate absence notices sent home. I’d like to apologise and give a shoutout to everyone’s collective patience as we work towards a Compass timetable that is reflective ofwhat is actually happening in Instrumental lessons.  Students have been excellent at knowing what's going on, even if Compass has not been.

Over the next week the Music Department will be conducting an inaugural Student Satisfaction Survey of it’s Instrumental Music Students – it is a two-page survey that asks students to reflect on their experiences in their lessons, band, and camps and tours. It is anonymous and time will be given during band rehearsals to complete it.  We hope that the responses help us improve the program we offer.

Looking ahead at Term 3:

Our Mid-Winter Concert is happening on Thursday August 1st in the PAC– all our Instrumental Students will be performing (some for the very first time!) and we welcome families and staff to attend.Venue: Wangaratta High School PAC

Time: Show starts at 7pm

Tickets: Available at the door (Free entry for performers).

Kool Skools will take place on August 19th & 20th, taking several students to Melbourne to record at Studio 52. Wangaratta High School is one of the longest recording Secordary Schools to partake in the Kool Skools project, recording our first CD back in 1997. We have plenty of spare copies of every CD Wang High has recorded - if anyone is interested in having a listen, drop in to the PAC and pick a few up.

Our annual Concert Band Tour is happening in week 8 of next term, taking our band to Philip Island from Monday September 2nd to Friday 6th.  We’re planning plenty of performance experience, some scenic viewing, and some fun tourist activities. More information about this will be sent home next term.

For the first time in several years, we’re bringing back our local Primary School Performance on Wednesday September 11th (Date TBC) where we invite the local Primary Schools to come and listen to our bands. More information will be shared later in the term.

To finish our term, we will be hosting an ensemble day with North East Victorian Region Instrumental Music (NEVR Music) on Thursday September 19th.  Students from our Symphonic Band will be performing and staying to watch bands from other visiting rural schools perform.

The Band Timetable is as follows:

Symphonic Band

Monday 3.30-4.45pm

Concert Band

Wednesday 3.30- 4.30pm

Students and Parents: If you have any concerns about what’s happening next term please don’t hesitate to talk to Keyna or Soli.

Staff: If you have any concerns about students missing your class to attend their music lessons, please reach out – we do have a rotating timetable which in theory should prevent them from missing consecutive classes but if you notice regular or unexplained absences that you think might me music related, PLEASE do not hesitate to talk to Keyna or Soli. You're also more than welcome to sit in on any of our Band rehearsals if you have the time.

See below a Term 3 Music Department Calendar which includes contact information.

Enjoy your winter holidays 😊
