On Wednesday 29th May I went to Division cross country. It was a great race and I was very proud that I came 18th. It was really fun to run with my friends and cheer on our school.   Georgia

At District it was a fun experience where I came second. In Division there were so many talented kids. I placed 17th and unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the next stage but I am still proud of my achievements.   Zerrin

On the day of Division cross country we all raced at Mirrabooka Reserve. In the District event I came 13th and then 27th at the Division event. I would like to thank Ms Hocking, Miss Steward and my parents for helping me through my journey.  Irene

At District and Division cross country it was fun and tiring. I was really proud of myself getting into Division this year and placing 36th.   Kirin

I was so proud of my effort seeing I made it through to Division this year. I placed 26th and it was a lot of fun.    Zach

Years 3 to 6 House Athletics Carnival

Our House Athletics Carnival for Years 3 to 6 students was held on a very windy Thursday 30 May at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood.

Students were dressed in their house colours ready to compete for points. They participated in several individual events throughout the day, including long jump, triple jump, shot put, hurdles, sprints, discus, high jump and relays. The children moved around the events in their age group teams.

The Essex Heights spirit came alive when the children were cheering loudly for their teammates during the events. They were supporting other age groups while they were waiting for their turn, especially when students were running in the 100m and 200m sprints.

It was great to see everyone having fun and supporting their House.

Thanks to all the staff who helped throughout the day with marshalling, measuring and timing the activities. Special thanks to Mrs Cotterell and Mr Perini for presenting the top four placegetters with their ribbons, and Miss Kemp for assisting with the co-ordination of the day.

A massive thank you to the following parent volunteers for assisting with the events too:  John Colley, Louise Bentley, Pia Ahmet, Victor Tan, Kat Pryde, Edwina McCarthy and Sa Feng. Your support was greatly appreciated!

It was a terrific day!

Region Cross Country

On the 13th of June last week I competed in Eastern Region Cross Country. I was in the 12/13 year old age group and 87 people competed. I had so much fun during my race even though it was very tough. My favourite part of the race was the start because everyone ran so fast. I was happy with how I ran because I had improved 1 minute since last year. I would like to thank my parents, Ms Hocking and Mr Perini for coming along and supporting me.

Max (Year 6)

I competed in Region Cross Country in the 11 year age group. I ended up coming 34th out of 88 other people. On the day it was muddy which made it harder. After the race I was very proud of my efforts and hope to give it another go again next year.

Thank you to Ms Hocking and Mr Perini for traveling all the way to Yarra Glen to watch.

Josh (Year 5)

I placed 5th at Monash Waverley Division Cross Country which qualified me to run at Region, but I was unwell, so I didn’t get to try and beat my place from last year.

Ryan (Year 6)

Max, Josh and Ryan performed extremely well in the Division event and thoroughly deserved their qualification to compete in the Region race on Thursday 13 June. The Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country course at Yarra Glen Racecourse was very challenging, especially the steady hill towards the end of the race. Max and Josh should be pleased with their efforts and proudly represented Essex Heights; unfortunately Ryan was unable to compete. It was exciting to watch them participate. Congratulations!
