Grade 1 & 2

Term 2, Week 10

It’s been a busy Term 2 in Year 1 and 2!

We have been honing our reading skills through fiction and non fiction texts this term that support our Inquiry unit ‘How do I best look after myself?”. We have explored making inferences, improving our vocabulary, practised reading fluency and continued our knowledge of phonics to help us decode words. You should see how our sticky noting has improved since we started the year!

In writing, we have been writing narratives, making sure we have an exciting beginning, a clear problem and a plausible solution to end the story. We have also been exploring persuasive writing and using convincing language to make our reasons even stronger. Keep an eye out for this persuasive language around the home as your children convince you of different things! Maybe just a few more minutes of TV time or a special treat for dessert…

In maths, we have displayed data we have collected in graphs, measured the length and capacity of objects and worked on telling the time with analogue and digital clocks. We will end the term consolidating our skip counting skills and addition and subtraction fact knowledge to make this more automatic to help us with more complex equations and worded problems.

Finally, we have enjoyed learning about all the different ways we can best look after ourselves. We have learnt about the importance of staying safe online, road safety, a good night’s sleep, our mental health and healthy eating. We have made delicious sandwiches and rice paper rolls in class and to end the term we will be choosing a final recipe to cook in a group. It’s been a delicious journey! Feel free to ask your children all about how they can stay safe and healthy to look after themselves.

To end the term, we will be having our Semester 2 reports distributed on Compass and Parent Teacher Interviews via Webex. Please keep an eye out for an email from your classroom teacher about your booked in conference time, and how you can still book in to discuss your child’s progress this semester.

Thank you for your continued learning partnership during this long term. We are excited for a restful break and productive Term 3.
