Term 2 BPS Physical Education and Sports news

Congratulations to all our students for your effort and participation in Physical Education classes and sport this term. It's been a busy term and we've packed a lot in and you've given your best in so many different ways. It's also awesome to see our new BPS athletics track out there and being used by our students! What an amazing facility we have in literally our own backyard here at BPS!!!

A special shout out to our amazing House and School Captain Team for the work they do to help our sports borrowing system happen every lunchtime. This is a great opportunity for our students to borrow equipment, practise their skills and also play games with their friends.

PE TERM 2 - what's been happening in class?!

In PE this term our F-2 students have been working on their locomotor skills and throwing and catching skills in a range of games and also focusing in on the sports and skills used in basketball and soccer.

Our Grade 3 - 6 students finished their Tchoukball Invasion Games unit and are in the middle of their Track and Field Athletics unit, learning and refining their skills in a range of track and field events, which they will use at their term 3 House Athletics Day.

District Cross Country

Congratulations to our team of 59 athletes who ran at Ruffey Lake Park this term and represented BPS at the District Cross Country. Thanks to all our parent volunteers who helped out on the day. We really value your help and support.

Thank you to Jen Fuller, Weyn Ong, Lawrence Bowen, Belinda Dealy and Jili Zhou.

Congrats to all our athletes on conquering the hills of Ruffey Lake. It's a tough run and you all represented us so well in finishing your races!

Well done to our grade 4 runner, Charlie, who won gold in the 2km female's race and to Max, who won a silver medal in the male's 2km race.

Congratulations to the following athletes who placed in the top 10 for their age group race and were selected to represent BPS at the Division Cross Country Championships.

Charlie, Max, Charlie, Max, Olive, Matthias and Alfie!

Thanks to Yuki, Mrs Fountain, Miss Tainsh and Mr Bourke for your support on the day with our team!

Division Cross Country

Congratulations to our seven athletes who ran at the Whitehorse Division Cross Country, which was also held at Ruffey Lake, Doncaster. Well done to Max, Charlie, Max, Olive, Matthias and Alfie for your efforts running in this event!

Well done to our grade 4 runner, Max, who won gold in his age group race over 2km! Amazing effort Max! Congratulations to our quartet of Max, Charlie, Max and Charlie for again placing in the top 10 and qualifying for Regional Cross Country. This is an outstanding effort!

Regional Cross Country

Our quartet of Grade 4 athletes, Max, Charlie, Max and Charlie, represented BPS at the Eastern Regional Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen Racecourse on Thursday 13th June. On a track normally run on by horses, our athletes again put in four amazing efforts, to climb the hills and navigate the mud, cold and pot holes! This event is one event off the State Cross Country Championships and our four young runners did a superb job managing the tough and very chilly conditions of the day!!!

Well done to you all on your excellent efforts progressing across four stages from house, district, division to regionals! We are all very proud of the determination and support you show! An incredible effort for our four athletes; Max - 14th, Max - 24th, Charlie - 29th and Charlie - 80th. The support you gave each other was the absolute best and is a credit to you all for being such great encouragers!

Thanks to all our BPS families at these representative levels that went through the nerves with their children and supported our runners! We appreciate you all!

Grade 5 and 6 Winter Sport Round Robin

High fives to all our Grade 5 and 6 students who trained hard for their district winter sport round robin day earlier this term. It was a big day for our teams who competed in T-ball, Netball and Soccer. Well done to all our teams, staff and volunteers that supported us in training and on the day to help us be our best!

Congratulations to our BPS A Netball Team that won their grand final and have now progressed into the Division final on Friday 9th August in term 3. An outstanding team effort to beat Surrey Hills! Congratulations to our Mixed Gold Netball team who made the Mixed Netball Grand Final after winning the preliminary final here at BPS against Kingswood. Our team then played St Thomas in the Mixed Netball final and lost 6-14 but played their hearts out!

A shout out and thanks to our parent volunteers who helped at different sports; John Bougioulos, Brandy Munroe, Kirsty Turner, Cheryle Richardson, Andrew Jackman and Kirsty Pilley. We appreciate your time and support of our teams.

BPS Tchoukball - Grade 3 and 4 tournament

Well done to all our grade 3 and 4 students who signed up to play for a team in our BPS Tchoukball tournament. Our students have been playing in two tournaments and using the skills learned in PE to play this game with some excellent results.

Tchoukball was developed as a sport in Switzerland back in the 1970's and has nothing to do with a "chook" and everything to do with a ball, rebound net and team-work!!! If you'd like to know more, ask your children as they've been playing it in PE across grades 3 - 6!!!

Have fun and "tchouk" on!!!!

Thank you to our Grade 5 and 6 organisers, Audrey, Sophia, Shreya and Jessie who have made this tournament possible and a great lunchtime event for our students!!!
