Principal's Report

As we head into the last few weeks of the term, we reflect on how positively things have progressed at the school  and that we are half way through the year already!

We know that both our students and teachers are getting tired and everyone is looking forward to some quality time with friends and family and a very relaxing break. I hope that the children and teachers enjoy the very well deserved break. We look forward to everyone’s safe return for the start of term 3 on Monday 15th July.

Thank You Teachers

As you may be aware, all schools are still facing critical teacher shortages, including casual replacement teachers (CRTs). Thankfully the challenges and shortages that some schools are facing, whilst being felt at BPS are being alleviated by the wonderful culture and staff we have here.

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and express my heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary efforts of our dedicated teachers. This year has presented us with significant challenges, particularly the nationwide teacher shortages, yet our staff continually rise to the occasion with unwavering commitment and resilience.

Our teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education, despite the additional pressures. They have taken on extra responsibilities, adapted to changing circumstances, and maintained their passion for teaching. It is their dedication and love for our school community that has enabled Blackburn Primary to continue providing an enriching learning environment.

As we navigate these challenging times, it is essential that we, as a community, continue to support our teachers. Simple gestures of appreciation can go a long way. A kind word, a thank-you note, or any form of acknowledgment can make a significant difference in their day. Let us show them how much we value their dedication and hard work.

While we work towards long-term solutions to address teacher shortages, we remain committed to maintaining the high standards of education that Blackburn Primary is known for. We are exploring various strategies, including additional support and resources for our staff, to ensure that our students continue to receive the best education possible.

Building Works

Building works are progressing well and I'm pleased to say that Angelo Merlino and Yi Zhang are now back in their classrooms much to their excitement and that of the children too! Final stages will be completed over the holiday break, unfortunately meaning a little longer with some temporary fencing around the school but in reality only minor disruptions for the children.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports are now live via COMPASS. Thank you again for the ongoing support that you have provided your child and the teachers at this school throughout this year. It is amazing what has been achieved. The report for your child will outline their progress in Semester 1, 2024 against the Victorian Curriculum. As in previous years to provide as much information as possible this semester teachers have allocated additional interview time to families to ensure that parents are able to ask the questions required and receive a full update about their child's progress. We believe you will find this report and interview informative of your child's achievements throughout the year.

Next Friday, June 28th at 2.30pm, we will end a very busy Term 2. Please make sure your pick up arrangements are adjusted for this earlier finish. Term 3 will commence on Monday 15th July. We will be holding our assembly at 2.00pm to conclude the term.
